Dim Sum, Disney style – One of a Kind
Crystal Lotus is the award winning restaurant at the Disneyland Resort that specialises in Chinese cuisine from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong.
The restaurant fills the space between 8 and 10 o’clock off the main lobby area with the entrance located along the corridor opposite the registration area at 11 o’clock (where Kingdom Gifts is). The exterior matches up to the name.
The individual crystal lotus is delicate and beautiful; Disney had spared no expense here.
I had made an ADR for the Sunday lunch at noon so getting a table was really easy and straight forward. They really are firm reservations and the table is set aside for you.
There was an electronic wall as you walk in…
….with a transmission of koi fish swimming upwards. To my mind, it was the only thing that didn’t seem to fit the ambience of the place.
Internally, the theme of crystal lotus’ continued – check out the chandeliers…
…and the motif in the chairs!
The décor was more modern than I had expected.
And they had exquisite flowers around the room.
Our table was suitably dressed.
I had specifically booked us in for lunch on the Sunday because of the special dim sum menu, only available at weekends and at public holidays. The menu? Disney inspired!
The Table Captain never really left my side during the ordering process and I wish I had more time to think and take a more detailed look at the menu.
Dim Sum in Australia is a little different to the way they run it in Hong Kong. Over here, we expect the food to be pushed out on steaming trolleys piled high with baskets by the restaurant workers who then bark out what each basket holds in a nearly incomprehensible language. Over in Hong Kong, you order what you want and the food is cooked to match your order. How on earth does one gage if you’ve ordered enough food or not if you don’t see the baskets overflowing off your table?
With the pesky vegetarian in mind, I placed the order for Dim Sum and didn’t order half the selection of Disney inspired items that I now wish that I had. It is really all too easy to just order everything Disney related….but really, I ordered what I knew we would eat; rather than order for the sake of appearances and photography.

I was surprised that no one else wanted more when the baskets were empty as I had anticipated that we would be ordering more. I guess I did order sufficient food after all.
The food was fantastic and perfectly cooked. I was surprised at how good the buns were. With that kind of decoration, it can sometimes dry out the bready section but not in these cases. At $48 - $78 per basket, the total came to over $1000 and settled down at around the $900 after the MAP discount. Thats about $120 in our money. For the amount of food that appeared on the table, it was a little pricey .but then it really was a One of a Kind type of Dim Sum and the experience alone was priceless!

Disneyland At LAST!
I know it was Sunday and by all accounts we should stay away from the expected crowded Park; but over lunch we all determined we should head over and spend some time there. So to Disneyland we were to go.
The walk seemed familiar ..
DH wanted to stop for photos, which is just as well because it meant that there are some pictures in his set with me in them.
I amused myself with a few more of the entrance.
I had wondered if the Hong Kong Disneyland would evoke feelings of Disney Magic the way Disneyland and Walt Disney World did. Maybe it had been all that press about HKDL being small and a lesser cousin to the American parks that created this question. The question weighed on my mind during the walk I did earlier in the day and I was somewhat placated to find that I still experienced that child-like happiness in the morning. Perhaps its the fact that Disney theming, music and smells along the walk just naturally tapped into the inner child that we all love to revert to when at Disney. This second walk of the day (another yees have it) cleared this question up completely for me. This time, I knew I was heading into the park and there was no question about whether this lesser cousin would be able to pull those feelings out. They were there not just in me, but in DH and DS as well. Perhaps we are all just Disney tragics that anything with Disney in the front of it just pushes those buttons but this is our holiday and were entitled to feel and spend it how we want.

And this time, with no closed gates and a train pulling in, Main Street Station was the first stop for everyones camera.
There might be a few more characters on the plaque but it all said the same thing.
Wed gotten into Disney around 1.20 pm and I was anticipating the park to be crowded. However, when we got to the other side of the bridge, it became apparent that this was not the case. Look what we came across!
The Parade was heading our way and it was practically an EMPTY square!
We really didnt have time to think about where we wanted to stand to experience the parade. It practically headed straight for us and we just all headed straight for the nearest kerbside.

I believe that this parade is only showing at Hong Kong Disneyland and was specially developed for this park. Its been a while since Ive seen a Disney parade and even longer since Ive seen a new Disney parade.
With a name like Flights of Fantasy, I immediately associated this with the Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory song of Pure Imagination. Can you hear Gene Wilder singing it? I could .
Hold your breath .make a wish .count to three!
Come with me
And you'll be in a world of Pure imagination
Take a look and you'll see into your imagination
We'll begin with a spin traveling in the world of my creation
What we'll see will defy explanation
If you want to view paradise simply look around and view it

The 7 floats in this parade are Mickeys Magical Airship, Winnie the Poohs Caught up in Daydreams, The Princesses Romance Takes Wing, Jumpin Jungle Jam, The Magic of Pixie Dust, Hangin Ten and Riding High and To infinity and Beyond!
The details on the floats are beyond belief and the costumes are amazing. It certainly rivals the Mickey Jammin Jungle Parade at AK, which is my favourite parade!

From the Entrance to the Castle
We had just timed our entry into Disneyland with the Flight of Fantasy parade. No repeat performance, it was to be our only time to view this parade during this trip.
My parents wanted to make a stop into Guest Relations to see if there were any pins available.
Ive long learnt not to tell them anything .so I let them head in to find out for themselves. Unlike the American counterparts, they would strike out here.
DH and I were happy to just take in the surrounds. We normally run straight in the park and head for the nearest big ride. Not so this trip.
The lack of crowd cleared really quickly after the parade and we were left with the square nearly to ourselves again.
I took some time to shoot my prince!
He did try to reciprocate .
I was checking out the view!
By this stage, my parents came out disappointed and a little annoyed by the attitude of the CM at City Hall. A little retail therapy was in order for them and we agreed to meet up later in the day.
No reflection needed on my part .
The arrangement suited us just fine. My parents and us have travelled a few times together and we do move at completely different paces. Its nice to spend time together but we are best exploring separately.
For the record, DH and I did have mobile phones and use that to contact each other when we are separated. With my parents, experience has taught me to pick an easy spot for the meet-up and a constant formula for the meet-up time; not just a single time. In the case of Disney, we arrange to meet at the castle drawbridge on the hour. No one stays longer than 10 minutes after the hour and then we try to hook up again at the next hour. This way, there is no stress of trying to get to the allocated meeting point at a precise time as we never know if we would be caught up in a queue or in a show.
With the arrangement in place, we said our goodbyes. They headed into the shops (which I never did make it into) and we headed down Main Street.
Main Street is .main street anywhere. You really couldnt tell the difference.
We came across street entertainment and they were graciously taking pictures with the guests.
Not to blow on their trumpets, they were really good!
We eventually made it to the end of Main Street and into the Hub.
Plaza Inn, anyone?
Okay. I know youre all here for that other building in the hub!
There isnt a Partners statue at the hub and that felt strangely lacking.
I was to learn that the forecourt space from where the sandwich board is to the start of the bridge is where everyone SITS to watch the fireworks. The space in the middle of the hub is reserved for people that shell out $$$ for dinner and the privilege of occupying the centre.
The Sleeping Beauty castle at Hong Kong Disneyland is an almost exact replica of the castle at Disneyland.
There are definitely less trees around the Hong Kong castle than at Disneyland. I was to find out the implications of this later.
At this stage, we gave DS the choice of rides and land to enter.

I love all the details of the restaurant. I liked how they made the food. So cute , you dont want to eat it. I agree sometimes its better to seperate and come back so everyone can do there own thing at their own pace.
Cool parade, love the way you added the song in there.

Dim sum looked awesome. I'm not sure how you didn't order more, it's never filling.
It is nice the the crowd control CMs crouch down when the parade is behind them.
Looks like any Main Street? HKDL always has the wierd Castle because you can see the mountains behind it. And it's covered with bricks and missing tracks. The buildings are close.

I love your pictures! Especially of the dim sum since we didn't end up doing that. I thought the castle was much smaller than its Anaheim counterpart, but I could be remembering incorrectly lol!

Love the parade photos 
Brings back a lot of memories. It is just so vibrant and colourful. It and the Paris one were my favourites. Tokyo takes the cake for best night parade though with Dream lights
That is a pricey Dim Sum, but I'm glad you had a good time and that the quality was high despite the decoration. I do know how dried out those buns can get.
Those little piggies would have landed on my plate for sure
I thought there were alien ones? Do you remember what was in them even if you didn't order them??

Holy cow, I feel I am way behind already. Great pictures as usual, Princess. I probably should just add that to my signature for everytime I post in your thread.
Anyways, comments from someone very far away from Hong Kong:
- That hotel was absolutely beautiful. At first I was surprise, but as my brain started working, I thought it made a lot of sense - it has a very old world British colonial feel to it to me - and being that Hong Kong was british for so long, and so that's probably why. Beautiful grounds, also seemed very empty as well.
- Your right about the time change. 2-3 hours are the worst, because the body just doesn't want to accept it. Stupid bodies!
- I thought the Fab 5 Fountain (FFF) was extremely cool. My DD really got a kick out of looking at it with me.
- Don't know how you managed to spend the whole morning at the hotel. I would have been so chomping at the bit to get to the park.
- The Dim Sum meal: My experience with Dim Sum is limited, really more getting it as an appetizer than a full meal. The food looked very good, except that the Duffy head looked really...um...creepy. A little too "real" to me, like they lopped off poor Duffy's head and put it on a plate.
-The park - your initial pictures do make it look like very low crowds. I hope for your sake it stayed that way!
-The parade looked like a lot of fun. The one question it brought to mind - for the Disney Princesses...did they use Western CM or were they local CM made up with a more Westernized look? Looking at your pictures I have to say I really couldn't tell which it was, which I guess speaks for Disney setting just the right tone with those characters. Overall, the characters look really fantastic. It's amazing how even from a very different part of the world, that parade doesn't feel like it would seem out of place in Anaheim or Orlando.

One of my earliest childhood memories is from seeing Cinderella's castle off in the distance when we were visiting Orlando, and how it seemed to tower over everything. DD:"Really? It's tiny!"

- Main Street is the first thing that feels kind of "off" to me. I don't know why...I also having never had a castle other than Cinderella's can't picture that teeny tiny castle. One of my earliest childhood memories is from seeing Cinderella's castle off in the distance when we were visiting Orlando, and how it seemed to tower over everything. I think that will be the oddest thing when we get to DL. I picture this conversation going on July 22nd:
DD:"Where's the castle?"
Me:"Right over there."
DD:"Really? It's tiny!"
Me: "It's just they didn't have the money to build a giant castle back then."
DW:"I've seen bigger castles playing mini-golf."

I love all the details of the restaurant. I liked how they made the food. So cute , you dont want to eat it. I agree sometimes its better to seperate and come back so everyone can do there own thing at their own pace.
Cool parade, love the way you added the song in there.
At least it didnt look to crowded. Cant wait to hear more
Separation is always a good thing. It makes you appreciate the time you have together more.
Aside from the tracks, Main Street was like any other Main Street. The Castle had the extra ramparts but the thing I missed the most was the Partners Statue.I'm pretty sure it's the same size as the Anaheim one. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly.
Love the parade photos
Brings back a lot of memories. It is just so vibrant and colourful. It and the Paris one were my favourites. Tokyo takes the cake for best night parade though with Dream lights

Intrigued I am.....
There were alien/little green men dim sum. I think it had lotus seed in them and was thinking about ordering them on the second round. There never was a second round!
There was also a Chicken Little bao with meat and vegetables.
Dinner was held elsewhere. They reserved the circle for the diners AND the CM were incredible about policing the area. There were a number of mainland Chinese people that thought they could just barge in....all got kicked out.
Just popping in to say that I love that you put so many pics in your TR. I've always wanted to know what Hong Kong Disney looked like!
Hey Mike! Thanks for popping in and de-lurking. I hope you stick around some more.....I still have three or four (thousand) pictures to sift through and share.

Holy cow, I feel I am way behind already. Great pictures as usual, Princess. I probably should just add that to my signature for everytime I post in your thread.
Anyways, comments from someone very far away from Hong Kong:
- That hotel was absolutely beautiful. At first I was surprise, but as my brain started working, I thought it made a lot of sense - it has a very old world British colonial feel to it to me - and being that Hong Kong was british for so long, and so that's probably why. Beautiful grounds, also seemed very empty as well.
- Your right about the time change. 2-3 hours are the worst, because the body just doesn't want to accept it. Stupid bodies!
- I thought the Fab 5 Fountain (FFF) was extremely cool. My DD really got a kick out of looking at it with me.
- Don't know how you managed to spend the whole morning at the hotel. I would have been so chomping at the bit to get to the park.
- The Dim Sum meal: My experience with Dim Sum is limited, really more getting it as an appetizer than a full meal. The food looked very good, except that the Duffy head looked really...um...creepy. A little too "real" to me, like they lopped off poor Duffy's head and put it on a plate.
-The park - your initial pictures do make it look like very low crowds. I hope for your sake it stayed that way!
-The parade looked like a lot of fun. The one question it brought to mind - for the Disney Princesses...did they use Western CM or were they local CM made up with a more Westernized look? Looking at your pictures I have to say I really couldn't tell which it was, which I guess speaks for Disney setting just the right tone with those characters. Overall, the characters look really fantastic. It's amazing how even from a very different part of the world, that parade doesn't feel like it would seem out of place in Anaheim or Orlando.

I might have played on the same mini-golf courses as your DW. Wait till you get to Anaheim.How did I stay away from the park all morning? I really didn't.....had to take that walk to the front gates to look. And then I figured I might as well enjoy the swimming pool at the hotel as it might have been the only time for us to make full use of the facilities.
Some of the CM were Caucasians. With the Princesses on the float, there was one of them that I wasn't sure about because of the make-up. But the others were westerners.

Right is the way to go
No matter how hard I try to teach my son, when faced with a choice, DS will ALWAYS choose right from wrong ..er .left. In this matter, he is definitely his fathers son. So, when faced with a choice of which land to go to, it came as no surprise to me that he chose the right path .into Tomorrowland.
I think I was more surprised at the relatively lack of crowds on a Sunday.
The Orbitron was immediately to our left.
Wait time was 30 minutes and DS decided not to stop.
To the right is the Starliner Diner.
We were never to experience the fare here.
We headed past the UFO Zone, one of the non-attractions listed as an attraction on the map. It really wasnt much of an attraction and just seemed all rather wet to me.

Journey into the Future and Take Your Imagination for a Drive
Ever since his first time at a Disney park, DS first ride of choice is this one.
The queue time was 20 minutes and there was not even a hesitation in joining the line.
It gave me time to take in some of the rules. Just in case you’ve forgotten what they are…..
In my quest to click, I missed an important discussion between DS and DH.
Turns out I was riding with the prince and the DS was travelling solo.
Anyone notice the second rule?
There are 3 driving lanes at HKDL that you can choose from. Each lane takes a slightly different path from each other and will criss-cross each other at some point.
We just needed to find DS so that we could supervise the child! However, he'd taken a different path to ours.
The silence was eerie…..literally!
The Autop'ars are electric driven; not gas. Whilst I appreciated the lack of diesel bouquet, it came without the accompanying put-put-putting that the Cars of Tomorrow ordinarily come with. Seems like I wasn’t the only one to feel this way. In order to recreate the much loved sound, we did notice a put-put noise coming from the speakers in the car. Yeah. Go figure.
Me? I was still on the look-out for DS.
Wait…..
OMG! I had a momentary flash of Journey into the Future!
DH had to speed it up with pedal to the metal to catch-up….
…and I had to speed it up with the shutter to catch this….
It then dawned on me…I had time travelled 4 or 5 years into the Future. In 4 or 5 years’ time, DS will be of age to apply for his Learner’s. My reaction resembles these trees!
I can certainly see the future in these pictures!
I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to see the unloading area!
It was definitely time to put an end to this Journey into the Future.

Shooting at Infinity
Unloading from Autopia brought us close to the Astro Blasters.
Stand-by wait time?
Practically walk-on!
The inside theming is identical as far as I can tell.
We were at our destination within 5 minutes.
I opted to travel solo this time, so the boys got into a carriage ahead of me. They eagerly reached for the sky ..
With both my pistols still in the holster, I think we all know I had a different kind of shooting in mind. Ive been advised to set my lens focus on infinity. Ive finally decided that they must mean this kind of Infinity and beyond.
Not too bad a haul this time round. And I couldnt resist the other kind of shooting as well
Until this trip, I was the ruling queen .or princess of this game in the family! With this one round, DH has now surpassed this measly score of mine. He shot in the 200s but then he was aiming for Zurg.
Me? I consoled myself with the fact that I aimed at infinity.

A quick trip to Space and All Stitched Up
DH and I could see a firm favourite from across Tomorrowland.
Sadly, it is NOT a firm favourite with DS .Id like to think ..yet.
Anyone notice the stand-by wait time? Well, the single rider wait time was even better ..5 minutes. Thats walk-on for this side of the queue!
DH and I took turns at walking on .
and it didnt take long for us to get to the front of the line.
At this stage, I packed my camera away and enjoyed the ride.
Dark rides, relatively large cameras and twists and turns you cant see are never a good mix, in my viewpoint.
I definitely couldnt see any differently and Space Mountain felt the same my bahookie kept sliding round the seat with each twist and turn in the dark.
And there was to be a flash of light somewhere towards the end as the ride that told me that my picture was taken and that the stop at the end was near and we pulled into the loading area.
As the planets were nearly aligned, I did take the opportunity to catch the loading area again at exit.
I went off to find the boys and tag DH for his turn. They had found a cool spot to wait.
After DH returned from Space, we walked to check out the Stitch Encounter we were right next to. We had managed to coincide our timing with an English hour, so it didnt take much convincing for us to walk in. See the sign between the two CM? That tells you the language the showing is in. I understand that it circulates between English, Cantonese and Mandarin your daily guide will also tell you the times.
Stitch Encounter is pretty much like Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor and Turtle Talk with Crush and takes about 20 minutes per show. We got in a little later and had a side view.
Id recommend trying to sit in the middle section, if you have any say in the matter.
Time to say goodbye to Experiment 626.
It was a funny show but I think the Laugh Floor had better gags for the show I experienced. However DH and DS did go back to re-visit this attraction on Day 2 and they said it was even funnier and better than the showing I saw. Maybe it really does depend on the audience!
We took another look at the Orbitron queue and decided to leave that for another time. Aside from the Orbitron, wed pretty much got through Tomorrowland in under 2 hours!
