Hi all, I will be getting marriedat WDW in January! I have my first 3 nights at the GF honeymoon room. Unfortunately, I can't afford to stay at the GF the whole time. Do you guys have any suggestions? I will be happy to hear any! Thanks a million!

If cost is an issue for staying in any of the deluxes, I'd put in my vote for the Port Orleans. We stayed there last fall, and it was one of the most romantic and charming places I'd ever stayed in. The restaurant, Boatwrights, was wonderful (and I'm on the picky side, according to my husband!) and we always felt alone. Even in the pool, there was never a crowded feeling. Many mornings he'd get a beignet (?) and coffee while I got dressed and bring be back something, and the only thing he'd see on his walk were ducks and frogs!

Congrats on your honeymoon, and enjoy yourselves. The good thing about WDW is that whereever you stay, you'll be there!

Just to clarify.... Cost is somewhat of an issue, but not too much of one. The honeymoon room at the GF is very expensive. It's over $500 a night. We just want to spend a reasonable amount for a wonderful room.

hi: my son and dil spent 11 days at wdw for their honeymoon a few years ago. they split their stay between the gf and a 1br villa at bwv. the villa wasn't a cost issue (we're dvc members). you may be able to rent points from a dvc member for less than you'd pay to deal with disney with cash. the 1br units are nice because they have a full kitchen (not to cook because we never use that white stove decoration) for you to have drinks, snacks, breakfast goodies right in your room without having to get dressed and go anywhere. the 1br units also have a washer/dryer so you won't have to take home any dirty laundry.

First off...CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :bride: :groom:

I just got married over a year now, and you are just gonna love being married!!:lovestruc

I also would recommend staying at Port Orleans. Either way you both are going to have blast!!!

Hi there Peanut!

I'm not getting married, but will be honeymooning in Walt Disney World next September. :)

I think where you would want to stay is dependant on a two factors:

1.) location preference
2.) budget

1.) You have 4 options for location:
*Magic Kingdom Area
*Epcot Area
*Animal Kingdom Area
*Downtown Disney Area

I would say that each one has its own strengths and weaknesses. The Magic Kingdom Resorts, while providing easy access to each other and the Magic Kingdom, really aren't that convenient to too much else. They're also the most expensive resorts on property, except for the Wilderness Lodge. The Epcot Area resorts can't be beat for dining, entertainment, and theme park access. (Theme park access if you enjoy Epcot...) However, there's no direct access to the Epcot front gate. If you want to get to Future World, you have to walk all the way from the back of the park. The Animal Kingdom resorts are convenient to the Animal Kingdom, but not too much else. And the Downtown Disney resorts are similar in dining and entertainment options to the Epcot area resorts, although not nearly as convenient.

2.) Budget - do you want to stay in a deluxe? Or is a moderate more in your price range? Do you have anything that will get you a discount? AAA? An annual pass? With the exception of the Animal Kingdom Lodge, all of the deluxes have some sort of "extra" transportation: either a monorail or boat Port Orleans also has a boat, but it only serves Downtown Disney.

If you're looking for a deluxe, I would probably stick with a monorail or an epcot resort, and my personal choice would be the Epcot area. I'm staying at the Beach Club because:

1.) dining options are incredible. We're a short walk from the World Showcase restaurants, as well as the Boardwalk restaurants, Swan and Dolphin restaurants, as well as the having the Yacht and Beach Club restaurants.

2.) We can walk to the Boardwalk and rent a surrey bike, or go to Jellyrolls, or the Atlantic Dance Hall, we can stroll over right before showtime to catch Illuminations......no shortage of entertainment options.

3.) The pool area at the Yacht & Beach Club resorts can't be beat from what I've heard. We're planning on a bit more resort time, so the pool was a consideration.

We were actually originally booked at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, but I switched to the Beach Club because there's just seemingly not enough at the Animal Kingdom Lodge to occupy us for 10 nights. If we were staying for a shorter time, I wouldn't have thought twice about it, but for 10 nights, I wanted a LOT more options.

Hope that my ramblings helped, at least somewhat!! :)

Humm, if it were me, I'd either stay at a Epcot area hotel or AKL. They are at the opposite end of WDW from GF. You can concentrate on MK area "things" while at GF, MGM/Epcot/AK while at the other hotel.

I think it would be so neat to wake up to the safari animals outside my window at AKL. The rooms are pretty reasonable for a deluxe. If you can swing concierge, you can go on the sunrise safari.

If you're "lukewarm" abt animals, then choose a Epcot hotel. You'd be so close to MGM/Epcot and the boardwalk.

Whereever you go, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful honeymoon.

Boardwalk Inn. Cancel the GF and do Boardwalk on the Honeymoon Plan. You won't regret it! They will spoil you rotten.
I have always wanted to do GF, but love the Epcot area soooo much I probably never will.

First of all I'd have to ask what you and your soon to be hubby like to do? If your night time people and like to go out I would say definately go for the Boardwalk! But if you think you might be spending more time in the "room" I would say go for the AKL. This is our favorite resort. It has the best options of everything we think. Great rest., atmosphere, lounges, views, and pool. Not to mention the best bus transportation of all the resorts. My DH and I also "Disneymooned" we stayed in a 1 bedroom at the OKW. It was lovely but really a waste of money on our part. We used the kitchen once! So I would really think about what it is you both would like to do the most and what it is you want out of a resort. Then we could give you a more narrowed down selection. But to be honest any one would be great after all your getting married in the "happiest place on earth" What could be better than that?

Congrats!!!:earsgirl: :earsboy:

The Boardwalk is a fantastic option. The Garden Suites make a perfect honeymoon room. They are 2 floors, have a king size bed, large jacuzzi tub and either a patio or 3 of the rooms have balconies (which I preferred) It'll be cheaper than the GF and much more room. Plus you have access to great restaurants and nightlife.

We stayed at the Beach Club for our honeymoon in 1994, and it was wonderful. If you are going to be at GF for 3 nights, switching to the Beach Club would be perfect because you will get to be in the MK area while at the GF, and then the EPCOT area while at the Beach Club. Although I agree with those who recommended the Boardwalk, I think that Stormalong Bay and a slightly more adult focus at the Beach Club makes the Beach Club a little better choice for a honeymoon than the Boardwalk. You certainly have easy access to the Boardwalk activities at the Beach Club, and it may be a little less noisy when you get back to your room. Both are good choices, and I hope you have a great time!

Like many of the posters, I suggest:

1. A one-bedroom villa at the Boardwalk or Beach Club -- king size bed, big jacuzzi tub, full kitchen, separate living room. Very comfortable.

2. Any of the Epcot resorts would be a good choice. They put you within walking distance of both Epcot and MGM. The Garden Suites at the Boardwalk Inn look especially fun to me and are situated in a beautiful and romantic rose garden. When we stayed at the Boardwalk Inn, we had a waterview room with an absolutely huge terrace overlooking the Boardwalk and the lake. The room was beautifully decorated. We loved it. Plus, there are tons of wonderful dining options within walking distance.

3. Animal Kingdom Lodge would also be a great choice. It is beautifully themed and a Savannah view is incomparable if you like animals. I think this is the most "transporting" of the Disney resorts. By that I mean that I really felt like I had gone to someplace exotic and different. We found bus service to be quite reliable.

4. Port Orleans Riverside. We found it quiet and romantic here as well. We had requested a manor room, ended up with an Alligator Bayou room and loved it. While I wasn't real keen on the rough-hewn furniture, the room was comfortable, had a king-size bed and was in such a quiet, secluded and heavily land-scaped area of Alligator Bayou that we felt blissfully alone (except when we went to the food court, of course!)

Best wishes for a wonderful honeymoon. I suggest picking up a copy of "Disney World for Couples" by Rick and Gayle Perlmutter. It is by far the best guide I've found for helping you select a resort for a romantic stay and giving you ideas for fun and romantic things to do while there.
