Hi everyone! I'm new to these boards, but this doesn't seem like a subject that has been addressed too much, so I'll go ahead and ask:

I've recently signed up for the Honeymoon registry as I'll be in WDW for my honeymoon next June. I'm beginning to have doubts, however. I originally thought the idea was fantastic, because it gives our guests an opportunity to give me and my fiance something unique, interesting, and fun as their gift to us, but I've been reading a lot of really bad things about honeymoon registries at large. A lot of people see them as just another way to ask for money instead of "real" presents, which is seen as very very rude. Rude is the last thing I want to appear as to my guests, and they needn't give me anything! Plus, some shady honeymoon registry sites charge guests to use them (so X% of their gift actually goes to the website, not to the B&G). We're also registered at Target, and we're not putting any of our registry info on our website or in our invites. Additionally, we're paying for the lodging and dining plan ourselves, and just added things like behind the scenes tours, souvenirs etc. (oh and a meal at Victoria and Alberts, if anyone is feeling extremely generous!)

What are people's opinions on the Disney Honeymoon registry? I find that it's a little less crass than other honeymoon registries, and comes off as truly more gift giving and less straight up cash giving (even though ultimately it is just cash--except it is cash that can only be used at disney, for disney stuff).

Well, the thing about Disney's honeymoon registry is that guests really feel like they're giving you a thing or an experience. The registry even lets them print out a little card to give you that says, "We bought you this tour/meal/whatever"...

We were really surprised how many people chose to use our registry - WAY more than we thought. And some people just kept giving us more and more stuff from the registry! I think they found it really easy and convenient, plus they didn't have to pay for shipping or tax. The amount they wanted to spend was all they had to spend. :)

I am excited about mine. My wedding is in 30 days (YIKES! so much stuff to do!), so I will know better after the wedding. My family has a habit of giving cash, so I am unsure if they will like this. Only time will tell for me. I can PM you after the wedding to tell you how it went.

I love it MYSELF!! I put a little on it off & on as my own little savings account for the trip. :cool1:

We got married in August, but because I'm a teacher I had to go to work a day after the wedding. My guests purchased things off our store registries, but now with Christmas coming and everyone knowing we are about to honeymoon, they want to Christmas gift us our honeymoon. It is above and beyond what I expected, but the Disney registry has helped everyone feel like a part of our continuing celebration.

So I'm all for it, and the worst that can happen is we attempted to use it without any luck. Either way we already have set aside the money for our magical honeymoon.

Hello and Congratulations!!

We recently got married and did the Disney Registry. We weren't sure if people would be upset by it, or if anybody would even get us anything off of it. Like you, we were worried that people would see it as a "covered up" way of asking for cash. However, in the end we decided that people will always find a reason to be upset about something, and if they didn't like the idea they didn't have to use it. In the end, we were pleasantly surprised by the amount of people who took advantage of the Disney Registry. To ensure that they knew were grateful for the memory, we sent a picture of us at the particular restaurant on that tour etc to the person who purchased it for us along with our thank you card to them. I think most of the people who gave us something off the Disney registry felt as though they were helping us make a memory instead of just giving us "stuff." Don't get me wrong, regardless of what we were given we were grateful, but the people who gave us something off the Disney registry just seemed more excited about their gift.

Hope that helps and have a wonderful Disneymoon!:goodvibes

Thanks everyone!! I feel a lot better about this and am really glad to hear that so many people liked it/used it!

Ariel--that is a fanTAStic idea, and I'm definitely going to do that on my disneymoon!

Thanks again, I'm so excited! :goodvibes

I also used it as my own savings account. It worked out really good. If I had extra money I would apply it to my registry.

I've been saving all my change and I'm going to toss it on the registry right before we leave because it'll be easier just having it on the gift card plus the gift card is cute :)

I wish I'd have thought to use it as a savings acct.... We leave in 6 days for our honeymoon!!!! Congrats to other honeymooners and brides-to-be!!!! May your day be as perfect as mine was!

you can sign up once you have your disney trip booked. you need the reservation number

It is an outdated view of things in my opinion. The original purpose of a registry was to help set up a couple in their new home, who had never been living together etc. We all know in our modern times that this is not how it happens for the most part.

It depends on your family. If they may see it is rude, maybe alos do a traditional registry with some household items you would need? That way they have the choice of how to gift you.

My cousin added this little poem to an insert into her wedding invites.

Because at first we lived in sin,
We've got our linen, and a bin
And whilst a gift from you would be swell
We'd prefer a donation to our wishing well

I don't know of anyone who attended that felt it was offensive or rude, and most people commented on how cute it was. Besides, I'm sure most people who add money to your registry would truely believe that they're buying you that tour, or that meal, not just giving you money like they are.
