Honeymoon Lovers and Seafood Lovers take on Disney Dining! - dining plan analysis

I know what you mean about the resort to resort transportation. It stinks! Major! =P

Sorry to hear about the drinks! It's always disappointing when you get something and it's not what you expected. The food looks absolutely amazing though! My tummy's growling just looking at those pictures!

I loved looking at the bill at the end of the night and then just swiping our meal plan and it being sooo much less. Woohoo!!!

Hi, and congrats on your Wedding! :goodvibes Your off to a great start on your trip dining review.:thumbsup2 My family loves the 2 restaurants that you have already reviewed. Your sandwiches at EOS looks amazing. I have to try it on this trip. :thumbsup2 We ate at Narcoosees this January and had the same meals as you. They were so delicious! I Cant wait to read more and see more pictures. Thanks for sharing.:goodvibes:)

Looks like you really enjoyed Narcoossees :goodvibes

That is a hell of a long time to get there though :scared1:

You guys are so cute! Congratulations! Looking forward to the rest!

Thank you! :goodvibes

Yeah, the transportation is a pain - it might be worth it to get a taxi next time... we had much better drinks at other places, thank goodness, but the food was so good here it didn't really matter! :woohoo:

Thank you! You definitely have to try that sandwich at Earl's, so good!

Yeah, I think it was partly just bad luck - we had to wait a bit at our resort just to get on the bus (we must have just missed one) and I guess with all of the guests going back to their hotels from MK it was pretty crowded on the monorail. We got back a bit more quickly but it still really surprised me how long it took. I knew to leave plenty of time but thought that was just an extra pre-caution, not actually necessary!

Narcoossees is one of our favorites! We always get the surf & turf (yes both of us).
I agree with the transportation. Disney trans. is ridiculous!!! It's the only thing I hate about Disney. You just need to factor so much more time. Looks like you had a fantastic honeymoon. It brings back some wonderful memories for me :)

Haha DH really likes to sample multiple dishes if he can, so he will almost never order the same dish as me! Sometimes we'll end up splitting our meals if we feel like it.

Columbia Harbor House

Our first full day in Disney we headed to the Magic Kingdom! For our counter service lunch that day we decided on Columbia Harbor House. I'd heard good things about it, and they have a lot of seafood options so it seemed the way to go for us.

I knew once we got there that the parks were going to be pretty empty. It was a little after 11 and almost no one was in there. People had recommended going upstairs for a little more peace and quiet but we stayed downstairs and practically had the room to ourselves.

P1000192.jpg

For my entree I ordered the Fried Shrimp Platter with French Fries:

P1000189.jpg

This was good, if not great. I gave it a 7 out of 10. It was really just typical fried food. Nothing bad, but nothing remarkable either. I also got a diet coke with it - they definitely gave us the large size, it was 32 oz. A lot of soda!

Jason got the Lobster Roll with Chips:

P1000190.jpg

He gave it a 7.5 out of 10. I think he liked the lobster part but it had onions in it, which he absolutely despises. So he spent a good portion of the meal attempting to pick all of the onions out of it instead of actually eating it. He also never ate the chips, we took them back to the room and I had them a few days later. They were decent chips.

For our dessert Jason had the Apple Crisp, and I had the chocolate cake:

P1000191.jpg

He gave the apple crisp a 9 out of 10. He really enjoyed it, saying it was an extremely good dessert for a counter service place.

I gave the chocolate cake a 5 out of 10. I was already pretty full by this point, but I do love chocolate. However, this was just too rich, thick, and filling for me. I don't mind a good rich chocolate cake, but this was the bad kind of rich where it just felt thick. Maybe if I was just having that as a snack and hadn't already eaten a full meal I would be able to handle it a bit better.

Overall we gave the Columbia Harbour House a 7 out of 10. It was decent for counter service, but nothing too special. We'd come back, but I'd want to try out some of the other CS places first.

We used 2 CS dining credits for this meal.

Shrimp Platter: $9.19
Lobster Roll: $9.99
Apple Crisp: $3.59
Chocolate Cake: $3.59
32 oz Diet Coke: $2.49
32 oz orange soda: $2.49

Total without tax: $31.34

It seems like a lot to me for a quick service meal, but if we hadn't been on the dining plan we definitely would not have gotten dessert, and we probably would have shared a drink.

I read your planning journal off and on, but always felt odd commenting on the wedding board. Definitely following this now!

Congrats on you marriage and my best wishes for a wonderful life together!

I am enjoying your reviews and looking forward to the rest. I am so glad you were able to see the water pagent for the first time - it is such a simple display, but I love it! Everytime I see it, it seems so special and so "only at Disney."

Thank You! for that warning about the onions in the lobster roll! I can't stand onion either and its nice to have been warned since I've been eying it.

Yummy, Yummy surf and turf. Scott ordered that and looovvved it! And how about that tart right? Ahh so good :cloud9: The transportation truly sucks especially trying to get to Boardwalk from PORFQ, I can't wait to hear your experiences with it. Keep 'em coming darlin'!

Congratulations! Loving your reviews so far! Looking forward to more :)

Thanks so much! I'll be updating soon!

Aw, you don't have to feel weird about commenting - but welcome over here!

Thank you! The water pageant was definitely a cool thing to see, I didn't even know it existed!

You're welcome! If there are any other onion encounters that we had I'll let you know, but this is the only one I remember off the top of my head.

Yes, it was all so good! Actually, getting to the Boardwalk was the easiest part for us, but we weren't in a rush when we went over and it was the middle of the afternoon!

Cinderella's Royal Table

We had early dinner reservations here at 3:50, since we had the dessert party scheduled for later this night! We got to the podium right at 3:50, and it started pouring rain just minutes after we arrived! We were let in to have our picture taken with Cinderella within five minutes. Once upstairs we were seated right near the window, so it was cool to have a view of Fantasyland:

We were also greeted with a table covered in castle confetti to celebrate our honeymoon!

P1000205.jpg

To begin with, we got a basket of bread and drinks. I liked the drink "goblets," kind of going with the theme of the restaurant.

P1000207.jpg

The inside of the place is quite nice. Perhaps not as big as I was expecting though.

P1000211.jpg

This was really one of the only times we got appetizers, since it was included. Jason went for the Royal Tasting of Cheese - a trio of cheeses:

P1000209.jpg

He rated it a 6 out of 10, saying that there was really nothing special about it and none of the cheeses were particularly unusual or tasty. He also didn't like the one in the middle, which I believe was goat cheese.

I decided to order the Rock Shrimp Cocktail (rock shrimp with tomato marmalade):

P1000208.jpg

I normally love shrimp, but I gave it a 5 out of 10. The shrimp itself was fine, but the stuff it was in tasted a bit strange. There was a lot of corn in it. I like corn, but I'm not used to having it with shrimp? From the menu it sounded like just shrimp with a tomato sauce so that surprised me a little.

For some reason I don't have pictures of the main courses! I swear I took them - I think that something's up with my camera, but there were other pictures that I was sure should be on there that have disappeared. So sorry about that :sad1:

For the main course Jason ordered the braised cobia (braised on Pomodorro sauce served with vegetables over angel hair pasta). It's a white fish if you don't know. He rated the cobia at an 8.5 out of 10. He said it was a very flavorful fish, and from the bite I had I agreed.

I had the lamb chops (Pine nut Coucous, roasted Zucchini and Apricot Gastrique ). I thought this was all right and give it a 7 out of 10. It wasn't anything outstanding, though I thought the apricot gastrique was rather nice.

For dessert Jason ordered the Valrhona Chocolate Mousse - A light chocolate mousse presented with berries and raspberry sauce:

P1000217.jpg

We both really liked this, and he gave it an 8 out of 10. The mousse was good, not amazing in itself, but the raspberry sauce was so delicious. We are both big fans of the raspberry flavor anyway (it was the filling of our wedding cake!), so it doesn't surprise me.

I had the Chef's dessert trio:

P1000218.jpg

I really like the places where you can get a trio because I like having a little taste of everything. This one had almond cheesecake, chocolate mousse, and a fruit tart. I rated the plate an 8.5 out of 10. The samples were delicious and the small portion sizes are good for me. The fruit tart was the best, I love fruit. The chocolate mousse was fine but it didn't have the raspberry sauce :( So I had to borrow some from Jason! And I liked the cheesecake more than I expected to since I'm not a huge cheesecake fan. The almond flavor was really nice, not too strong and not too subtle.

And then of course there's the meeting of the princesses!

P1000216.jpg

We met Cinderella in the beginning, and the ones that came around were Belle, Ariel, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty. They all went by pretty quickly and although they didn't start coming out til we had our appetizers we got through them all.

Overall we gave Cinderella's Royal Table a 7.5 out of 10. None of the food was bad, it just wasn't anything special. But there is of course the added bonus of meeting the princesses, and everyone knows that's what you're really paying for. I thought it would be fun to eat in the castle on our honeymoon, and it was, but we both agreed we wouldn't be coming back - at least not unless we have a little girl at some point in the future!

We used two TS credits per person, so 4 total for this meal. Drinks and tip were included so there were no outside costs. I don't know what the exact price was and couldn't seem to find anything accurate on the internet, so I'm just going to take a guess. It's definitely between 50 and 60 per adult. Let me know if you know the exact price!:

Adult 1: $55.99
Adult 2: $55.99

Total: $111.98

I'm 3 pages late... but I'm here!! Everything looks great!! Can't wait to see more!!

Thanks for the review of CRT. I have never wanted to dine there because just like your review everyone says it's not that exciting as far as the food goes.

Yeah, the food is not fabulous. But I would say do it at least once just for the experience, and especially if you have kids. We don't plan to have kids for about 6 or 7 years, so I don't think we'll be back at CRT for at least another 10 or 15 years!

Welcome! :thumbsup2
