In April 2010 I am plaining on taking my wife to Disney. We have never had a honeymoon, on our wedding night we had 7 kids and my sister staying with us. So... we need some alone time. I'm also going to be celebrating my 50th B-day. My wife is the most perfect woman in the world (at least for me) she is funny, caring, loving, and would give away her last dime if you needed it. I got sick and couldn't work for an entire year, she took on a second job and took care of me and our combined family of 4 children. I know it was hard but she never stopped smiling!!!!
I'm looking for HELP... Lisa wants something simple, quiet, and thrifty (her words).

Thanks, John

p.s. I've been a member for 6 or so years and this is my first post.

Quiet, yet thrifty? My suggestion would be Port Orleans Riverside. It's a moderate resort, so for cost it falls right in the middle (hopefully you'll get a promotion too!) and it's very pretty and quiet!

It's where my husband and I stayed for our honeymoon on a budget! :) We had a great time!

:welcome: to the DIS! What a sweet first post!

I'd probably suggest POFQ for a moderate (although CSR is personally my favorite mod, I have heard POFQ is very romantic :lovestruc). For deluxes if you want to go that route and can get a good deal, I'd go for AKL. Costs much less than Poly and some of the other deluxes, but has great atmosphere and great dining.

I would suggest in the POR mansions for a relaxing honeymoon trip. It is quiet and peaceful, and there is a boat to DTD that is very nice. There are a lot of paths to walk around too that can be romantic.

Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter... both would fit the bill...

check out the following site, I am sure you will fall in love with the place www.portorleans.org

It is the brainchild of a fellow disser and he did a wonderful job on it... Happy Planning

How sweet!:lovestruc Yes POR or POFQ would be a great choice. They have horse drawn carriage rides that you can do. Also you could look into CSR or CBR. At CSR they have updated rooms and if you could get the updated king room you will not be disappointed. My DFi and I got upgraded to this room before and it was sooo nice! It had a desk, two ottamins by the window for seating, king bed, flat screen t.v, and a nice bathroom. The regular rooms at this hotel I did not like and would stay at CBR instead. Both of these resorts have the beach with hammocks. My DFi and I would take naps on them together. Very cozy!!!! Good luck with whatever you decide.

:thumbsup2 I vote POFQ . Of the two, it's the smaller and every building is fairly close to the check-in desk and food court. Also, be sure to do the carriage ride at POR, very romantic at night,my wife loved it !!!!!!!!! Also the boat ride to DTD is romantic and very relaxing.

We are going to POR for our honeymoon (Fifteen years late) in Sept. It fit our budget. We are also going during the free dining promotion which is helping out a lot too. Saving us money.
We just returned from a week long stay at WL. It is very nice as well. It is our second visit to the lodge of hopefully many more to come. If you are wanting to upgrade to a deluxe, WL and AKL would be the lowest cost of the deluxes.
Happy planning! It is almost as fun as the actual trip.

I also vote for French Quarter for a moderate. We've stayed at just about every Disney resort and that one smacks of romance. What we enjoyed was that the hot tub was separate from the main pool so there weren't very many kids (I really don't think any kids) going back and forth from the pool to the "hot pool". It is more compact but you can enjoy everything at Riverside as well. You can even use their pools since they are a sister resort.

If you want to go to a value, we (husband 49, me 47) enjoy Pop Century because there is so much nostalgia there. You can get quiet rooms there too.

Your wife sounds wonderful! Enjoy your delayed honeymoon!

I laughed when I read your title. Me and my husband are going to DW in Dec for a "late" honeymoon! We have been married a little over 7 years and never took one. So here it is!! :)
We are staying at Pop Century, it is a little less romantic than say AKL or WL or even PORFQ but hey it fit our budget and with FD who could resist.
Orignially I had planned a AKL stay but just couldn't justify that extra $1000 to be there. I can use that money to keep for the next vacation!

Enjoy where ever you pick.......it is DW, it is all special.

I have heard that OKW is quiet and relaxing, and going there for 1st time in Oct. They have a steam room in the lighthouse by the main pool. They also have a boat that goes to Downtown Disney, and friends said that rooms overlooking the canal are quiet and romantic. Also, from Dis, there has been an upgrade promotion from Value Resort to OKW or SSR. It might be a way to get a deluxe resort for a value price.

POR, my husband and I spend our first anniversary here and had a wonderful time that we return here 6 months later. We were on a budget when I was planning our 1st anniversary and I was very happy with our 2 stays here. This place feels more romantic than the value. Hope this helps

Holy cats and little kittens, Thanks everyone so much for the help!!! I'm kind of overwhelmed with the response.
It looks to me like Port Orleans is the best choice. I like Riverside personally, I guess its that country boy thing.
Does anyone have any ideas on dining??? I went to the Yachtsmen Steak House and the Hoop dee doo around 100 years ago and loved both. I know the Hoop dee doo isn't very romantic but I think she'd like it.

Looks like you found a resort! That is step one. :thumbsup2

As to your question about dining - there is a dining section of these boards and the posters who frequent there will be happy to answer any dining questions you have. You may get better responses there. If you think she'd like HDDR then go - romance is what you make of it. My most romantic nights are when the DH and I get a good laugh - HDDR would work well for us. Just being together and doing what you enjoy is romantic. There are many restaurants that I think are very romantic for different reasons (my husband proposed at the California Grill, and our first date was at Casey's Corner), but if the food or theme doesn't appeal to you - it won't be romantic. Look at some menus, think about the kind of food you like, what ambiance you would enjoy, let us know, and then we'll have some opinions. :rotfl:

I can't agree more that romance is what you make of it. Personally I am not a "get all princessed up and head off to have campagne and caviar" kind of a girl. I would rather pick a place I like the food and atmosphere of and enjoy being with my husband.
There are so many choices for anything and everything with a little time and hunting you'll find exactly what you are looking for.
I am actually planning on doing a character BK and dinner for our "special" nights. And maybe lunch with an imagineer, the hubby would really enjoy that.
Special moments happen anywhere, just being at DW they can fly in when least expected!

Hey, we at the Dis aim to please! I think you'll like Port Orleans and I highly recommend the very nice and romantic stroll between there and Riverside. You really will get the best of both worlds with the sister resorts.

My best meal of all at Disney World was at the Yachtsmen Steakhouse. It was for our combined birthdays and our anniversary and it was top notch service and the food was amazing. I highly recommend it. I also recommend the Captain's Grill in the Yacht Club for a more downscale meal but the same atmosphere (if a bit louder).

BTW - Sci Di Inn in the back seat as "hitchhikers" is pretty darn romantic too.

How do you go about renting a DVC at Animal Kingdom???

HI! On the Disboards there is a rent/trade area.

http://disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29

You can go here and find an owner with the resort of your choice and he or she will make the reservation for you.

Risks: they control the reservation
Pros: you can stay in Disney deluxe for a ridiculously cheap price. Sometimes as cheap as a value. If you find a DVC resort that you like SSR, OKW, BWV, BCV, VWL, etc etc etc and the owner can secure you a reservation. Fantastic! Think of it this way. Say a week in April in a studio at the Boardwalk Villas cost 90 points. Say the renter's "rate" is 10 dollars per point. Thats $900 dollars for a whole week of lodging at a Disney deluxe! (P.S. I used "estimate" numbers here but you get my drift)

There have been a TON of successful rents on these boards. You should really check it out. :thumbsup2
