Over the weekend DH and I watched almost nonstop all the news coverage on damage left by Hurricane Charley. We have friends in Bradenton, St Pete, Winter Springs and Gainesville and concerned about all of them. Our DDs (13, 8 & 4) started asking questions about Disney, Sea World & Universal. Since I wasn't able to answer some of them, I thought I'd send these questions to those who may know better. Appreciate any feed back available.

1) When hurricanes come where do the whales and dolphins go?
Are there special tanks to get them out of the wind, rain, and lightening?

2) What happens when a lightening storm comes up? What if it hit the water where Shamu was? Are there lightening rods?

3) At US when we went in June, a Shrek balloon was hanging over the entrance looking down at you as you came in. What happened to that? Did someone take it down when the hurricane was in the forecast?

4) What about all the potted plants hanging around? Is there a special crew that has a hurricane plan and goes around taking down all the plants, signs, and other objects that can be totally
destroyed in 90 + winds?

DD8 was very concerned about the animals at AK but we told her they had huge "kennels" and barns to go into when the weather got bad. She's still concerned about the whales since they're so big. She understands you can teach an elephant to do tricks and follow you but where do the whales go?

Can someone let us know so she'll stop worrying!!

THANKS!
Karen

I can't answer them all but they did have the Shrek balloon down and they battened down the hatches pretty good at USO/IOA.

I think when it comes to the Whales etc its worth mentioning that these mammals are below the surface so I think they actually are protected that way at least they must be in the wild any way

I think it's great your dd has such a big heart and curious mind! We are leaving for Universal today (our "unexpected" trip!) and will be making a side trip to either SeaWorld or Animal Kingdom. I will definitely ask them about these issues and let you know if nobody else has the answers before that.

Snoozn........That'd be great if you could find out for her. All of us are crazy about animals. Living on a farm the majority of my life makes me a little nuts about 4 legged critters. We have a 139 lb black Lab, 3 cats, 33 goats and 40 some odd cows.
Thanks for checking in w/us!!
