Honest question: why can't I add a water cup to my mobile order?

Disboards feel very strongly that Disney should not allow people to add a cup of free water to their mobile orders.
You wrapped it up into a "the company needs to remind people to drink water" and that's where you lost people, otherwise I think people were more or less like "yeah that'd be nice but not 100% needed either".

It's also the "industry standard" to not have a free water cup as an option when ordering online. You can't do it at McDonald's, Moe's, Wendy's, etc., either.
And don't forget the OP didn't want to have to carry a water bottle, either....

I remember on our 2011 trip we didn't have a collapsible one either but in 2017 and 2022 we did. Ours has a carabiner that can clip on to a park bag (and we had a small small one in 2011 we could have done this to as well) and can be folded up when not in use. On our May 2022 trip as we entered AK a CM at the tapstiles even commented on how we did it, we had it attached to loops on the small backpack (a 20L packable one from Eddie Bauer) when it had water in it.

I get why someone wouldn't want to bring another something with them at the theme park but it's probably one of the most useful things we have (aside from at WDW portable chargers lol).

I also have to drink lots of water for medical reasons. Does the free water have any sort of weird taste? I'm planning on buying bottles of water to carry around but if I can get free water with my QS meal that would maybe cut out a bottle a day.

I think the free tap water in WDW is nasty. I’d rather pay for the Smartwater.

We've never had any issues with the water at Disney and it doesn't taste off to us. The QS cups are filtered water as far as I know. There was one exception that water at Skipper Canteen the one time we had it had a stronger tap water taste although that wasn't bad per se it was just stronger there. But of the countless QS cups we got and water at other restaurants not a problem whatsoever. Water is the most often drink we have at WDW doesn't bother us. Others may be more sensitive to tastes too and FL can have a more sulfer taste from what most describe I just never felt like that was really the case in what we drank.

Wow, OP, did you ever think that such an innocent little question would give 4 pages of answers? I kind of thought that it would be nice to have an option of ordering a cup of water on mobile order, I never thought it would cause such controversy!
