Homeschoolers? HELP on Algebra 1

My dd is in 8th grade at the public school. I am not thrilled with what she is getting in school in the way of math. I would love to supplement her at home and am looking at Algebra 1 textbooks.
Do you have a series or program that you might suggest?

We used Saxon Algebra 1/2 when my DD was homeschooled last year. This year she is taking Algebra 1 in public school and is sailing thru so far

I've seen several suggestions on one of the homeschooling boars that www.khanacademy.org is a good place to look at for some videos that explain things well. I haven't seen it yet myself.

One thing we always did when my DD was having trouble was to look for videos on YouTube. We would search for the title of the section of the book and watch those videos (ex: "reducing quadratic equations" or whatever), and those often helped.

We used the entire Saxon math when we homeschooled. It worked well for us also!

Hi,

Am I correct in taking your post to be saying that your daughter is not being challenged in school? If you do algebra at home with her will she be able to move on to geometry or algebra 2 next year? I'm just wondering if she'll be stuck in algebra 1 next year anyway, and maybe be even more bored than she is now.

In any event, look into "Teaching Textbooks." It's a computer program. I'm using the fifth grade now with my homeschooled daughter and we LOVE it!"

I teach algebra at a small private school. I have 7th and 8th graders in my class. Around here, that seems normal - public or private. Is your daughter unable to take algebra in 8th grade?
