Homeschool Meet at WDW Fall 2006

Hi! I would love to have a homeschool meet when we are at WDW in November next year. There is a Disney Y.E.S. program and now that the ticket system has changed, I'll need to call and find out about program prices. It used to be a substantial discount on tickets and chaperones were free. They had several different catagories such as science and history.You just meet for 1 program anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on the topic. If I could get an idea of who might be interested I could gather some info. Does this sound like something doable??
Our travel dates should be Nov 5th-Nov 18th, 2006

Both of my homeschool groups did something like what you were talking about. The admission was a bit reduced and you got all day in the park after you did your program.

We couldn't do it--but it sounded great!

We live relatively local, so we might be up for it. November 10-12 is a no can do for me though. Any of your other dates would be okay.

I do not have a trip planned for that time but we normally go at least twice a year. For an opportunity like this I could definitely arrange to attend!

I would love to meet you guys. Not homeschooling yet as DD is just 2 1/2. will be starting some preschool teaching come Jan. 1st.
We are thinking of changing our dates from Sept. 25 to Nov 27th for start date and will be their 8 days.

Hmmm, we are going this Feb, but hey, I have been known to go three times in 11 months so there is still a possibility!

And for that matter DH just applied for a job down there through a recruiting co he has used before, so who knows, maybe I will be close enough to the magic to join you!!

Some Info..... if you go to www.disneyyouthprograms.com there is specific info about pricing and the different programs, 10 or more needed to participate. There are 2 programs I thought would be appropriate for our group that encompasses a wide age range, the 1st is called "How Things Move" and is for ages K-2nd and "The American Story" is for ages 2nd-12th grades. The discount is about 30% less than regular admission and there are dining packages discounted too. There's a link to for a accomodations quote, not sure if this is also discounted. With 10 students, 2 chaperones are included free(thier entire package) and only these 2 chaperones are allowed to accompany the students on the actual program which lasts 3 hours, it doesn't mean you can't be near the kids observing from the theme park where the program is taking place. This would be a great opportunity to get together. Our dates are a little flexible as well. Take a look at the website and think about it,when you have an idea on specific dates you could attend, please post that and how many participants you would have and what grade they are in. This sounds so fun!

I still can't see DH saying yes though. I make him out to sound like a bad guy but he's not. We had some expensive medical issues this year - DS10 in hosp for 9 days, DH had an MRI, physical therapy for DH, cavities for DS5 ... too depressing. Anyhow, he's not really bad guy. I know as well as he does that any Disney trips are on hold until all the medical bills are paid off. Being responsible is crummy!

I hope this can happen and you can post pictures and tell me all about it!!

I'm definitely interested!

I thought I saw somewhere here on this board that there was a "Homeschool Day" at Epcot. I also talked to someone on my last trip while at the parks who had heard about such a thing that happened in December. I haven't been able to verify that yet, but I would like to find out more.

I think it would be fun also if we could get our "group" to have maybe a scheduled day for Sea World and also the Orlando Science Center.

This sounds like a great time!!! We are going to be there in May though. If anyone would be interested in doinng it then pm me. I wouldn't be able to swing it in Nov. It is vacation black out at work .

Thank you for the heads up about the programs they offer though. They sound fabulous. I am always looking for fun and exciting ways to brighten our learning experiences and what a better way than Disney.

My son will be 10 at the time and 5th grade. There are a number of programs regarding science that look very interesting both the physical and natural sciences.

I would probably have an AP so wouldn't need park tickets so I don't know how that would work?

I am a little concerned with the only 2 chaperone rule...I would like to be learning right along side him as well with his special needs I would be concerned sending him off without me.

I would basically be planning our trip for this reason so pretty well any date would be fine.

I am also planning to go in/around May so may be able to join two groups?

I can ask about that, when I talked to them they said the 2 chaperone rule is so that there is more interaction between the kids and the Disney guides when there are fewer parents/chaperones present, but since he is special needs I might assume they could make an exception, they are known for thier great attitude towards people that have disablilities. I'll post next week after I talk to them.

Excellent!!! You are probably right regarding the exception. The only other question would be if they can cost the program without park admission or not? Because we will more than likely have an AP. Don't know if it will make a difference or not.

we might be interested, especially if we can do it right after Thanksgiving so we can catch the beginning of the Xmas decorations/activities.
