*** Homeschool List ***

Please add me to the list!!! I am starting HS this fall with DS8. We will be using Sonlight. He is advanced in reading and spelling especially and the private Christian school he was attending didn't seem to want to give him any advanced work. He too, was one of those that went "backwards" last year. Frustrating! We are excited and eager to start, but we are waiting until DD15 goes back to school to start our work here.

Add me to the list. As I stated in another thread, school started yesterday. Today, DH calls me from work to say he thinks we should seriously consider homeschooling.
DS1 is 12 & in 7th grade. He was sent home with a fever yesterday & may miss the entire 1st week of school. I figure I will "home schooling" him this week anyway.
DS2 is 11 & in 6th grade. His math homework last night is what sent DH over the edge. It wasn't challanging - just a lot of busy work. It wasn't even a reveiw of any real concepts. This DS is an enthusiastic learner but not a big fan of school.

This is my first time on the Community Board (I usually just hang out on the trip planning boards) but I'm glad I found this thread!

I homeschool my DD14 - last year was our first year and we LOVED it!

Would love any advice on preparing for college when you HS - DD wants to go to a major State University (Auburn).

I know this is an old thread, so you may not be monitoring it now. Just in case you are, I can give you some encouragement as far as college.

We used www.abekaacademy.org. Through the 8th grade, I just used their books and took care of the record keeping on my own. When DD started high school, I enrolled her in the DVD program (to make sure she got everything she needed in case I didn't feel comfortable with the depth of a subject) and in the program where they kept up with the records (in order to generate an "official" transcript).

I would suggest that you find some type of extracurricular activity for her to participate in. In our case it was horse showing and 4-H. Those accomplishments help when applying for scholarships too. She actually considered Auburn, because they have a pharmacy school AND an equine sports team.

DD was accepted into the early entry pharmacy honors program at our state university and is now a second year pharmacy student carrying a 4.0 GPA (thus far). I added that not to brag but because one of the things that I got absolutely sick of hearing whispered by people who like to turn their noses up at homeschooling was "Well, she may do well now, but she'll never make it when she gets to college. It'll be a lot different then." So far, so good...

Good luck and feel free to PM me if I can help any at all! :thumbsup2

Add me to the list. I am homeschooling my dd's who are 7 and 9. I just ordered K12 today. I am so excited and scared at the same time.
