*** Homeschool List ***

We made our minds up... situations have helped us do that of course. Spring break starts this Friday ad=nd that will be my 3rd graders last day of public school. You should have seen her face light up when I told her!

I could slap that teacher for setting the stage for depression and self doubt in an 8 year old. He is God of the classroom, his little world.

Good for you!!! My DD10 started homeschooling this Monday, and is SO happy. She told someone last night that she LOVES homeschooling. She never told anyone that she loved school before :rolleyes1 Good luck!

Congrats on the start of your homeschooling adventure. It is a fun and sometimes grueling task but when the times come that results are "seen" you feel on top of the world. It is a fulfilling and wonderful thing.

Have fun with it in your first year!!

Lori

Just wanted to add myself to the list! This is our first year homeschooling, my daughter is in Kindergarten. We are loving it so far! :cool1:

Our oldest is entering 9th grade next year. We've homeschooled since K with one year in a cyber charter (loved the curriculum, not so much working with the school). We live in Pennsylvania, so we can enroll her in a degree granting program, so no problem with that.

We currently use Sonlight, but neither dd nor I are thrilled with their high school cores. Their literature looks good, but not the cores, especially not the history/social science (I used to teach 6- university history and Social Studies so I'm really picky). She also doesn't like the Physical Science she's doing with Sonlight, and they use the same series/authors through the rest of high school.

That's where we are. We've considered K12 and Seton but neither work for us for a variety of reasons. So now we're at Alpha Omega. Anyone use that? How did they like it? Is Switched on Schoolhouse much better than the Lifepacs?

We're sticking with Sonlight for oldest ds through core 7, then who knows. With husband deploying to Afghanistan next month, they might all end up in school after I'm committed to a mental hospital after being alone with four kids for a couple months.

Thanks.
Julie

Hi,
I wanted to add myself to this thread. We homeschool our 6 kiddos. This is our 3rd year and it has been the best thing EVER!!!

Here is our family:
DD 16 going on 17
DD 14
DD 11
DS 8
DD 6
DS 4

I look forward to being part of this.

We are starting in high school next year :) We're doing a mixture of different curriculums based on what we've used this past year, what works and what doesn't...etc. We are using Apologia for Science/Biology and using Math U See for Math. We are using BJU for Language Arts and Writing Skills and Deeper Roots for Bible Study. We have some things we're comparing for History and I think we'll stick with The Rosetta Stone for Foreign Language, plus add in a good Latin/Greek root program :)

We'll be homeschooling 4 next year :) Two in K, one in 7th and one in 9th :) We still have 1 to go....he's only 3 :)

Hello, I am not a homeschooler, so I hope no one minds if I post here! :) I read a great article in the NY Times about a homeschoolers' basketball tournament. It was very interesting and mentioned that one of the best high school basketball players in the country is a homeschooler.
Here is the article:

Thought some of you might be interested! :)

Teacups...Good luck with homeschooling..My son starts Monday.

Julie..May your husband be safe in Afghanistan and come home soon and safe..
My son will be in 8th grade next year and I'm already looking ahead..We are looking at Keystone

theRatPack..I just ordered Rosetta Stone German

My DS 11 who is in 5th grade will be taking his testing April 8-10. This will be his first testing since we started homeschooling. I am a little nervous about how he will do. Is there anything I can do to prepare him? He is nervous too.

God bless you and your hubby! Seriously.

Thanks. He leaves on our Easter (we're Russian Orthodox, so our Easter's about a month later than Western Easter this year). Everyone is telling me it'll go by fast, and if we keep homeschooling, rather than going with a cybercharter, I'm sure it will.

Thanks- I'm sure he'll be fine. It's me I'm worried about with the 4 kids.
Is Keystone a specific curriculum- I'll have to look into it.

We use Rosetta Stone Spanish and have Chinese, the kids like it but I grew up learning to conjugate verbs, memorize articles, etc, so I find it lacking for me, but I'm one of those grammar and usage fanatics.

Keystons is an accredited school, Umbrella school, so It may not work for some..I like the structure and accountability it will offer..

I'm looking for structure with the oldest one. Not that she needs it, I do.

Our state doesn't recognize enrollment in umbrella schools. You can do it, but still have to go through the requirements with your school district as outlined by law.

Thanks-
Julie

Do you have a really good website that you use in your home schooling? Since I'm new at this (starting tomorrow!) I'll start.

http://www.starfall.com/

This is one my son's kindergarten teacher sent home, and it is good for that age!

Here's another that is SO COOL! If your kids want to know how to draw, this one is fun! You have to hit PLAY between each step (it waits for you!) so if you have trouble, keep that in mind. (you can see I was on the frog page. You can search out various things.)

Have you looked at WinterPromise at all? Their highschool stuff looked very interesting to me. I really wanted their Amer History to work for us, but with two active little boys, their definition of hands on and mine just varied too much.

Websites--my favorites right now are
www.funbrain.com
www.primarygames.com
Those two are for the kids to play online

As for resources/printables for me, my top picks are
www.puzzlemaker.com
www.enchantedlearning.com
www.edhelper.com
www.learningpages.com

Those middle two have some free stuff and some you have to sign up for a memebership at $20 a year for and the other two are totally free.

New to the boards, not new to homeschooling. Well, that's not true, either. I've been haunting them for four years, but I'm finally taking the plunge. I can tell this is addicting!

I'm the mom who coordinates the giant homeschool WDW trip every September & it used to be all I could do to keep up with that, but now we have a bunch of homeschool mom and dads that help, so I can breathe!!!!

I found this list again on the homeschool lounge. I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone! Blessings to all!

I never heard of WinterPromise. I'll look at that too. Thanks.

Can I get some information on the giant homeschool trip? We usually go in September, but not this year, due to dh's deployment, we moved up the trip to April so we can go before he leaves.
