What curriculum do you like best for grades 7 and 8? Anyone tried the
time4learning site? I am looking to not spend alot this year because I would like to have money for the high school years. TIA

For 7th grade we used:

Abeka-reading, spelling/vocab, history/geography

Apologia-science

Winston-grammar

Chalk Dust-math

Institute for Excellence in Writing

Positive Action for Christ-Bible

I am pretty sure this is what we will use for 8th grade as well. The only "expensive" part of the curriculum is the Chalk Dust.

There are many ways to find curriculum at good prices - we've purchased much of ours on wwwdotvegsourcedotcom (replace dot with . and then go to the homeschooling section), not so much on ebay anymore since we can't get teacher's guides there but you can find some, but if you do a google search on free or used homeschool curriculum you can find tons available.

Perhaps consider doing a unit study. We are just finishing year one of A World of Adventure: A Unit Study Based on World History (for Grades 4-8)...my boys are in 5th and 6th this year. We actually divided the curriculum in half (covering Egypt, Greece, and Rome)and we will do the other half next year (as 6th and 7th graders).

It is a good curriculum and we have all enjoyed our studies. Before becoming a mom, I was a Christian school teacher for grades 5 and up (certified to teach secondary English) so I have a decent amount of experince with various curriculums (Abeka, Bob Jones, etc) and still found this to be worthwhile.

The cost is great at only $70! Course there are a few other books used, but they are all available at the library (we started that route, but we have loved some of them so much we wanted to have them in our home library). Happy hunting for what fits your family
