Homemade Holiday Presents! Lets help each other! Ideas WANTED!

I want to learn how to make tamales. If anyone has a good recipe please share!
Also recipe books.

I've had great luck with the mushroom tamale recipe on epicurious.com

It has received rave reviews at family function and a cocktail party I had.

This is a sad/happy thing...
I am going to make Disney Ornaments... Last year I broke the very first Christmas ornament I got. It was orginally a set of Disney characters- the face/head of Mickey, Minney, Donald, etc.... and I was down to 2 of them. But the only ornament that broke last year was the gold glass ball with Mickey Mouse on it. I was so sad I couldn't finish putting the tree together...

So I desided that I was going to make a new one! It wouldn't take the place of the orginal one, but it was better then nothing!

This is what I do...
Get the Sandylion Disney Rub-Ons... they have MM, Minnie, Cindy, Ariel,( I can't find it locally!), Pooh and friends and a few others...

Get UN-BREAKABLE balls!!! Or what you want... But I'm not taking a chance again, and I am going to have my 5yo DN help....
Line up the rub on where you want on the ball. Rub it on. Done!

Of course, I will prob. use a little glitter/glue and maybe a sprakle glaze or something...

The transfers are about $3 a sheet, and I can get 3 to 6 ornaments from each sheet, and the balls are at Wal-Mart the unbreakable ones are 18 to 24 in a $9 box. So the ornaments will be under a buck each! My niece will love them!

Thought I would post pictures the baskets I've made for Christmas this year.

Movie Night Basket: 2 DVD's, 2 Dale and Thomas Popcorn in Plastic Container, one large Hershey Bar, a box of Gobstoppers and two Cokes (I love the ornament looking Coke bottles)

Pamper Yourself Basket: 4 large Bath and Body Works Items, 2 small Bath and Body Works Items, Razor, Manicure Set, Sponge, 4 Yankee Candle votives and two votive holders and a Christmas Towel. (with all the Bath and Body Works sales this year and doing the ECB's with CVS this basket cost under $15.00 to make)

CAn someone tell me a good site to print off the blank calendar pages. Or would you just recommend not trying this myself and ordering the photp calendar from somewhere. I saw someone say Kodak, is there anywhere else to get these?

I have done dozens of these in the past..if you can find the "Invent It" brand of kit, it is so fun and easy..comes with the blank pages and software...makes it easy to customize and works well. Check Ebay...:thumbsup2

How blank? Just dates? PM me your email and I'll send you something...

Here is a picture of the picture frames that I am currently working on. The frames are a $1.00 at Micheals and the painted wooden animals run anywhere from .59 to .99 for them . They also come in other shapes and items besides animals. Anyway all I do is paint the frame the color I want add some ribbon and decorations ( stickers , painted wooden item or embelishments) I use a hot glue gun to make sure all items are secure and give it a quick clear coat to seal it all and I am down. They normally run me about $2.50 to make.

thank you so much for this idea!!! I am doing it slightly differently. I got little wooden letters and I am going to spell out df's neices names and put one shape on each frame, but I am still putting ribbon on and painting the frames. Thanks again for this great idea! :goodvibes

Glad I could Help..

Merry Christmas

I don't know if this idea has been posted, too many posts to check. You buy the boxes of cheap glass christmas balls at craft store. You also get a couple of those little bottles of squeeze out craft paint. You take the lid off of the christmas ball and squeeze in a little bit of paint in a couple of colors. Then holding a napkin over the opening shake the ball or turn the ball upside down to swirl the colors all around the ball in a design. Put the lid back on. This looks really nice. Both pearly and metallic paints look good like red and gold together or rose and silver.

Hi,

I haven't read all the pages yet,

but I like to make calendars for the Grandmas.
They are the big 12x12 size with 5-7 pics on each page
and they consume all my time as we get closer to xmas.

But I love doing it and I hate buying them "Stuff" just to get them something. We do a name draw, but we always break the rules.

last year I made a small one 8x8 for my daughter.
It was much easier and a great idea for a non addicted scraper.
1 pic per page and a few stickers.
Hers was Disney themed
Cinderella for October (the pumpkin tie in)
Snow White for September (apples and school tie in)
etc.

Love all the ideas
Thanks for sharing!

I've also done things like homemade christmas ornaments. Not really homemade, but i painted things on those ball ones like names, trees, snowmen, snowflakes, etc. I've also decorated picture frames from Michaels (the unfinished ones), and painted on canvas board pictures for DFIL.

I think what I'm doing this year is making family 'movie' baskets.

Take a basket and fill the bottom with shredded paper. Put in boxed 'movie theater candy' (buy at Factory Card Outlet... cheap cheap cheap!) and buy a couple boxes of microwave popcorn. Take the popcorn pouches out and arrange with the boxed candy. I'll either then purchase some DVD's from the budget bins or put in a $15 gift card to Blockbuster. I'll then put shrinkwrap on it and tie with a bow. Ta-da! I'm guessing, if I do the gift card idea, it'll be around $25 per basket, as long as I can find some nice cheap baskets on Black Friday :thumbsup2

WOAH!!!! So weird! My post from a year ago  !! That's exactly what I did- and it was a big hit!!
