I like to keep a stash of Dryel sheets at home for "dry-cleaning" dresses, dress shirts, etc. My DH and I think they work pretty well. However, they are expensive! I was thinking of trying to make my own Dryel sheet - maybe saturating a fabric softener sheet with Febreze and some stain remover? Does anyone have any suggestions?

No help here, but would love to hear if this is possible. Those things are sooo expensive!

I dont have things I dry clean, but you could always get something old that is dry cleanable and then just experiment. Cant hurt espescially if the item was .50 cents from a yard sale or something. Let us know. Jo

So being curious I decided to look into this (I have never used one of these kits). I found "The dryer-activated cloth holds a small amount of water, as well as perfume and an emulsifying agent."

The water turns into water vapor and with the perfume makes your clothes unwrinkled and smelling fresh. The emulsifying agent holds the other 2 things on the cloth.

The bag holds the water vapor in while in the dryer.

You use standard stain remover to remove stains. This is apparently the downfall of home dry cleaning, at the dry cleaners the fabric is placed into a solvent which will remove stains.

I don't see why you couldn't make your own sheets if you have the appropriate bag to use.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Not homemade - but my Walmart currently had specially marked Dryel starter kits. Buy the starter kit and refill kit and get 100% purchase price rebate for both. The rebate form was in the starter box and good to some date in 2011.

I also had $2 off coupon http://dryel.com/get-free-coupons/ I just googled "dryel printable coupon".

Hope you have a Walmart near by.

Thank you all for the tips -- both on where the deals are and how to possibly make them. I have a Dryel bag from my last pack, so I think I'm going to try making my own and using the bag first. I'll let you know how it turns out!
