In another thread they were talking about "Homecoming Tickets"!! Can someone tell me what this homecoming thing is all about. Never heard of it before!!Thanks.

I just did a search and found out what this omeocming thing is about. Did DVC start this thing and how did you find out about it. I can not go this May, but if they ever have one again, I sure would like to go. How did you learn about this??

I learned about it from the boards. I received nothing by mail. After I learned about MH from the Disboards I checked out the member website.

I just checked the member website. There is plenty of info about the member homecoming there. There is no mention of it in the Vacation Magic fall and winter issue. Wonder why they kept it such a secret? I would like to go to the next one that is for sure. I would think they would have some kind of mailing or better yet put into the Vacation Magic??I would not have been able to make this one anyway, but would like to have been informed of it anyway.

We heard about it on the boards, but we also got a mailing about it. Really looking forward to it. We did the DVC Member Cruise which was fantastic!

We got an invitation by mail for MH. We are going and are very excited but would like some more details soon!

We got an invitation in the mail. Wish we could go, but we can't.:(

DVC supposedly sent out announcements via USPS in mid-December. We purchased at SSR back in September and did not receive the announcement. Gee, heaven forbid they should send us something regarding the opening of our resort.

I'm probably beating my own dead horse, but here is my own list of "issues" with the way the Member Homecoming was handled:

1. We were already well into the 7 month reservation window for the MH dates before the announcement was made. In fact, DW and I had set our May trip dates about 3 weeks prior, and they did not coincide with this event.

If DVC had given ample notice, then people wanting to attend the even would have been able to plan ahead to book a room for this period. As it is now, the resorts are mostly booked and the MH is not sold out. So, even if you decided to attend MH, you might not be able to get a room.

2. Lack of details on the events. Perhaps they want to really dazzle people with all of the "surprises", or perhaps the event just wasn't well planned even when they started marketing it.

Either way, the "exclusive park access" events just don't add up to what they are charging. Which leads me to...

3. Price--price--price. They better have an awful lot of goodies for the attendees. A couple of E-Ticket nights and a lunch at SSR just don't add up to $250 in my mind.

And, for those lacking the historical perspective, the event was originally announced at $299 per person including the 2 day hopper passes. DVC adamantly denied there would be any discounting for AP holders.

After numerous people on this board (and likely others) emailed DVC to complain, they relented and announced the $249 price for AP holders. Ooooh...a $49 discount for removing the park passes. I wish DVC would tell me where I can get a 2-day hopper with one PLUS for 49 bucks.

If they had gotten that AP price down around $170-180, I really would have considered it.

I sincerely hope that everyone who has paid for the event gets their money's worth. With 3000-4000 attendees each paying $250-300 each, DVC is realizing revenues upward of a MILLION DOLLARS for hosting this event. I hope those dollars are put to good use in the form of an unbelieveable goodie bag for attendees.

It really wouldn't have hurt them to at least tease some of the giveaway items. I think response would have been much better if they had announced a couple of one-of-a-kind items that attendees would receive like a polo shirt or wristwatch or pin set.

This may well be one of those unforgettable event that the attendees brag about for years and years to come. Seriously I hope that's the case. I just wasn't willing to fork over $500 of my hard earned money to find out for myself.

It's deja-vu all over again......

You should have been here for the member cruise last year. You would be used to all this by now.

As per the member update yesterday and last week DVC is 'renting' MK for one night and Epcot for one night. In each case there will be limited access to those parks on those evenings. If you have ever looked into the rental of an entire park it is v-e-r-y costly. So actually one entity of Disney (DVC) is renting the parks from a separate Disney entity (the parks). (If you read your DVC disclosure statement you would know that you do not own stock in the Walt Disney Company.) Each part of the company is a 'separate' entity - theme parks, resorts, film studio etc.
As for the SSR grand opening there will be a huge party similar to the media events that they do for special openings (like new attractions-Mission Space for example).
It will include 'streetmosphere' players dressed and acting the parts of Saratoga Springs in the late 1800s, gifts, special tours and other special entertainment. It sounds nice if a bit pricey. I can't go but wish I could.
I bet that special pins will be given out (there go the pin traders getting all worked up.)
I'm sure that at least some of the attendees will post their experiences here.
As for the timing I believe that they can not make offers until the financial pieces are worked out so that is why we did not get earlier notice. And lets face it many of us make our plans 9, 10, 11 months or more out from our planned visits so that we can afford the trip or get what we want for a resort stay.:wave2:

I read Mary's (mousesavers.com) experience for the Mission Space Press Event and MH reads very similar to the type of events the press was able to attend. That is why I did not hesitate to purchase my ticket and make a ressie. As I read her trip report I thought how AWESOME and how I'd never be able to attend a Press Event and then they announced MH!

That and the reviews from the Member Cruise told me that WDW knows how to throw a party.

I would like more details too!

Thank you for your replies. I never got an invite and I have been a member since 95. Maybe it is that Connecticut thing again. They forgot to send Connecticut DVC members a notice about the last points that were for sale at OKW once. At any rate I am looking forward to hearing about the experiences one has with this.
