Hey DVC'ers! I'm getting to the 'fish or cut bait' point with joining... I want to join in early January, as I can pay %50 to %100 of it immediately rather than financing the majority of the purchase. However, I just recieved a postcard notifying me that the WLV should be selling out in December. This is the resort I have my heart set on!!! I also see that there are not many resales available for this one yet, and it will probably be a while before I am able to find one.

How essential is to buy points at your resort of choice?
Would it make sense just to buy whatever is available in January?
Also, can you buy points at one location and then again at another home resort?

Thanks for helping out all of your potential neighbors... you guys are great!!!

hi: maybe you can set it up so you will close in january. do you have a guide yet? if so, call your guide and see what you can do. you can always pay off any financing early as well. if your heart is set on vwl, you may want to purchase and finance now and then pay it all off come january. member accounting will be more than happy to help you. the theme song here is "buy where you plan to stay" for the 11 month priority for ressies. you can also add points at other resorts beginning with as little as 25 points if you are paying cash, or 50 points if you are financing. you will have the 11 month priority at the different resort only with the add on points. for example: if you have 150 points at vwl and an additional 25 points at bcv, you would have the 11 month window at vwl for 150 points worth and the 11 month window at bcv for 25 points.

Wdwnut made some good suggestions. If you have your heart set on VWL, you probably want the advantage of buying there in order to have that all-important 11-month window there. January is not very far away. So if you go ahead now in order to be sure that you can still buy at VWL, you could always pay the whole thing off in January if you're able. Sounds like a win-win situation to me!

Best wishes as you make your decisions. You have lots of great vacations to look forward to! :)

You can buy in Dec and with a deposit you can have the paper work started. It will take a little while and you can pay in Jan. I put my last addon deposit on my credit card and by the time all the paper work was signed and returned another month had gone by. I then put the rest on it. Oh and by the way, I used my card that has airline miles with it. I paid in advance on the card so when the the bill went through there was money there to cover the large expense. Since you have a plan to pay most of it, that would work for you also. I wasn't sure it would work, but when my bill came I had all the miles from the purchase. I will prepay toward my card from now on when I have a large purchase to make. Those miles really add up.

You can always buy resale, probably as cheap or cheaper than through DVC. I've already seen a number of WLV resales on the market, some cheaper than the current DVC price even if you add in extra closing. I wouldn't rush things if you're not ready.

The first advice I would give you is to buy where you want to stay most. I have seen this repeated many times since I have been visiting these boards. Secondly, last year about this time they began talking about the BWV selling out soon. We eventually added on to our original contract but it was a couple of months before they actually sold out. As the other posters have stated, it does take a few weeks for closing after you have actually sent in your money.

I really appreciate the help guys!!! I will call my guide soon about it all... I just can't stand to think I'll miss out on WLV by a month ;o)

Orky15....

Don't forget Dean's great advice....there is always the resale market. Of course, that brings in some other things like closing costs and less flexibility on the number of points you buy. But for an investment this big, you don't want to feel pressured into anything.

Others had great advice on how to work this out to meet your time frame. Just wanted to remind you to keep your options open and that you do have a fall back plan with resales if needed.

Oh yeah, did we mention that you should buy where you want to stay? :D

Good luck!!!
