We currently have our home owner's and auto insurance with Allstate. Recently, I called to get some quotes from two other companies. The quote from Traveller's was really low. So low in fact, I was skeptical. Farm Bureau was right in between the two. Who is your insurance through? Have you been happy? What, if anything, do you know about Traveller's or Farm Bureau?

All weekend my DH looked for pop-ups so should we decide to bite the bullet and get one, obviously we will need to insure that as well. I'm assuming everyone has the same company for home owner's, auto, and camper? I know there is usually some kind of discount for multiple policies.

I don't have a problem with paying for good insurance, but I don't want to blow my $ if I can have the same coverage at a different company for less. My Allstate rep. told me that other companies will lure you in on a good rate and then jack your rate up later?

Thanks!

My homeowners, auto and camper are with three different companies.
Progressive seemed to have the lowest rates for the camper.
We change up the homeowners every few years. I have found when you shop it around you'll find better rates. They get you in low..and within a couple of years they are rising. In fact I'll be doing that this year for the homeowners come August. Travelers is a reputable company..we deal with them at the shop in regards to auto collision, haven't had any issues.
We have Geico for the cars.

My homeowner & auto insurance is with Liberty Mutual.

My RV insurance is with Progressive. On the RV, I checked many companies & Progressive was the least expensive.

Auto & homeowner rates vary from state to state & even from city to city. RV rates seem to be pretty consistant.

Just about every insurance company has rating "tiers" or subsidiary companies for their most competetive rate on auto insurance, including Allstate. Ask your Allstate agent if you qualify for their most competitive rating tier or Company and you might be surprized at the difference in premiums. The difference between a standard rate and a premier rate can be huge.

If you are not looking for "extra" coverages such as "Replacement Cost" on your RV then it is generally cheaper to add the coverage to your auto policy then to write a seperate RV policy. Your homeowners covers the contents in the RV subject to the same deductible as your homeowners policy. The liability is covered by the auto while being towed and your homeowners while camping.

We have the motorhome insured with Progressive also. Our house and cars are insured with Mercury, but as soon as I get my youngest daughter off of our insurance, we will probably change back to State Farm. We just can't afford the premiums with State Farm right now due to DD's lovely driving history! <---but it's not her fault...just ask her, she'll tell you that! LOL!

We have Alfa, which is Alabama's version of Farm Bureau.

We insure everything with them.

I don't know about other insurance companies, but Alfa requires our tow vehicle to be insured to insure the camper.

I shop every once in awhile for rates, but have never been able to beat Alfa.

We have USAA for home and auto.
They have great rates but are only available if you are military or former military or if you have a parent or sibling that is already a member.

We also have a pop up (a 1997) and bought it used last year. USAA includes the liability with our auto at no extra cost. Since the pop up is valued at considerably less than 5000 and not something we need (although our camping trips do seem pretty necessary) we don't have other insurance on it. I figure the money we save lets us go on more trips and if something bad happens to it we will start saving for another one.

Thanks for all of your replies!

I do have a call into Allstate to see if we qualify for a more competitive tier or company. My local agent flat out said he doubted he could beat the quote from Travelers. He also reminded me that though Traverlers' rates were much better than Allstate, if we filed a claim, Travelers would drop us immediately. Hmmm, I'm not so sure Allstate wouldn't drop us too.

Anyhow, I think that $630.79 is a significant enough savings that come August 1, we'll be insured by Travelers.

Allstate dropped us after over 22 years with no claims. They pulled out of Florida for home owners.

House, car and motorhome are all insured by USAA. We've shopped rates, but never found anybody close. Not sure how good the coverage would be for moho contents? I suspect a total loss in the moho would mean an auto and a home-owner's claim, but since they are one, it should be pretty seamless.

I keep my auto, RV and homeowners with the same company. Some years back my wife hit the back of the garage with her car (the brakes failed) so I had an auto claim and a homeowners claim with two seperate companies, what a mess that was.

From what Maggie said, USAA doesn't accept those that are not in the military, former military, or have a parent or sibling already insured by them.

If I found it cheaper going through different companies, I might would consider it, but personally, I like paying 1 company. We are currently looking for a pop-up so if Travelers will not insure it, we will go through a different company for it.

That being said, we did switch to Travelers last week. We'll see how it goes. We are getting more coverage for way less money. Now if they double my premiums next year, I'll be shopping around again.
