Home Internet and Cable?

We are moving to a new city, and we need to get home Internet at our new place. We currently are using our Verizon MiFi, and it works great, but it charges depending on the number of GBs we use. We still use it when we're on the road, so we are fine with keeping it, but we need something with unlimited GBs for home use.

We are seriously considering dropping our home cable as it is money that we could instead save, but unfortunately we are in a 24 month contract with Dish right now. We called, and to break our contract early, we would owe $227.

In looking at new internet companies, we've found ATT and Comcast available in our new town. ATT doesn't have the speed of internet we want/need. Comcast does, but it is $75 a month for just internet. However, Comcast has a special. For $49/month with no contract, we can get the same internet and limited cable. We know that this is a promotional offer, but without a contract, we can end the deal when it is over. We aren't anti-cable, but we just figured we could cancel as a way to save more money.

It seems like our best bet is to go with Comcast and get internet/cable and just end the Contract with Dish. It sucks to pay the $227, but that is what happens when we sign a contract.

Any thoughts on things we aren't considering? Any ideas of getting out of the contract with Dish?

Doesn't a move/relocation give you an out on the Dish contract? If you don't have a copy of the contract, you need to get ahold of one and read it yourself. These companies are notorious for not telling you the whole scoop.

So true. I got out of my Directv contract years ago because the fine print said I could just mail the equipment back if I was unsatisfied. Also was able to tell Clearwire to buzz off when they told me that no written notice was an automatic contract renewal. Both times the company reps outright lied to me till I pulled my contract and read the appropriate paragraph to them.

We have comcast for just internet (hate dealing with them, but it's the only company we have)! As soon as your promotional offer expires you can call and get the new promotion. We've been doing that for the last 3 years... just wait until our bill goes up, call them and get whatever special they have. Sometimes it includes cable, sometimes it's for 20 MBPS, sometimes it's for 10 MGPS. They won't do it automatically, but will if you call.

We just do internet and $8 per month for Netflix. never miss cable.
