Ok, so I am probably just trying to make myself feel better, but does anyone else put off "non essential" home improvements to add on to thier DVC points. We are thinking of adding on to our contract for GG 2011, anyhow over the weekend my DFIL asked if this summer we were going to put a paito in as we have yet to do that despite being in our home several years now ( I am sure neighbors are wondering the same thing). I know I should want to do this, but the patio just doesn't seem nearly as exciting to me as having 50 years of increased vacation options not to mention planning opportunities.:banana::banana:

We done things like that for years. We even buy a smaller home and keep the same car for extra years versus trading in every five years, so we can travel or cruise more and since May 2009 so we buy more DVC points. Many of our friends have homes that look like something out of a magazine, inside and out. We're still using the same furniture in our BR when we got married 30 years ago (and some of it was used then). :rotfl: I call our decorating eclectic. ;)

That would be us. I KNOW our neighbors are wondering WHEN the backyard is going to be redone. They even said that they want to replace the fence between us and my DH said, "Go ahead but we can't afford half of that cost."
While I"m thinking, because we're saving up for either a VGC or BWV add on plus I'll paint the house before fixing the backyard. ;) On a side rant, the HOA is painting our back wrought iron along the wilderness and last time they took so long to do it that the bunnies took over and the yard has never recovered, so who needs pretty grass. My DH would rather have his week at SSR strolling the paths admiring Disney's landscaping.

I totally understand because we've done the same! We live in a newer developement (4 years old) and all the other neighbors have done the patio and a lot have done crown molding and the like throughout the house. While these are on our list of things to do, it didn't stop us from adding on to BLT last year! Ofcourse when we save up again I'm not sure those things around the house will get done or another add on will happen! :rotfl2: I say it's your money, you work hard, spend it however you wish! If you enjoy vacations more then a fancy home then that's how you should spend your money! :thumbsup2

It's your money. You enjoy it whatever way you want. In the long run, you invest in what will make you the happiest the longest.

The DVC rooms have balconies...which is close to a patio:rotfl:....I truly understand, like all of the other die hard fans!

Home First.

When necessary, Staycations will be more fun. They do happen.

Yes, I bought DVC last year instead of re-doing the bathroom. Hey, the kids are getting older and we made it all this time.

By next year, we will be down to only 1 left at home (one heads off to college and the other is going right in to grad school) so we can do it.

I was planning an add on this month, but am waiting to see about financial aid for my DD's college of choice. Depending on how well we do, depends on if I will be the proud owner of 25 more BLT points now, or next year.

Good luck!!!

We've added on twice since our first purchase in 2008. Meanwhile back at the ranch...we need a new garage door, in dire need of a deck in the backyard, kitchen could use a complete makeover and my great room furniture has holes in it (which are covered nicely with $250 slipcovers). Can you see where our priorities lie? DVC VACATIONS! Priceless. :cheer2:

I've been enjoying reading everyone's responses. Here's to wishing that DVD increases incentives dramatically so that it is possible to do add ons AND home improvements (or just larger add ons, who am I kidding?:rotfl:) Thanks for positng and have a great weekend!

DH is a carpenter by profession. Our addition has been in progress for 3 years and is no where near being complete. :rolleyes1

We've done s few add-ons & are talking of another one within the next month or two :rotfl2:

Life is short :flower3:

Life is short, and sometimes shorter than we ever imagined. Non-essential home stuff will always take a back seat to vacationing with those we love while we can. Enjoy your add-ons, everyone!

I live in my house 350 days a year. I'm at WDW 7 days every two years. I want my house to be comfortable - it is where I spend most of my time.

But its your money. If you wouldn't use a patio, don't put one in. We spent years with a crummy deck (replaced it last year) because we aren't deck people. Now we have a beautiful deck - and we still aren't deck people.

I know some people like that too. Their homes are super elaborate, but they can NEVER go on vacations and if they do...it is like every few years and only for a few days. They both work, have new cars, they bought brand new furniture for every room in their house when they bought it a few years ago, but they are on a strict budget for anything else. They rarely go out to eat either. I just could not live like that. I LIVE MY LIFE....so therefore I SPEND MONEY AND VACATION. :rotfl2:

Maybe we need a bumper sticker that says "my other home is a Disney Deluxe Resort" :). But stick it on your front door! Lol!!!

I don't enjoy staycations or maintaining anything at home. Our home is comfortable but it is our starter home and we don't have any "lifestyle" amenities . Our lifestyle is travel and plussing our vacations.

We rarely entertain at home we entertain at Disney which is much more exciting than "visiting relatives"

we have friends and family that spend a ton on their homes and are so busy maintaining it they can't enjoy it. Like constantly shocking the pool because somene stuck their toe in it!

Love it! I have 2 little girls. My Daddy died in September. Gosh, I miss him sooo much. (Yes, I am 34 and still call him Daddy. Epitome of Daddy's girl.) The last 4 months, I've thought of nothing but MEMORIES. Things we did together. Not once did the condition of my childhood home come into play, unless we were doing something together. When I'm gone, my children will have great memories of WDW. They won't remember that the carpet needed replacing, that upstairs makeover we talked about never happened.....
