I am having major renovations on my house for the first time, mainly to try and help with my mold and dust allergies. All of the carpeting is being ripped out and replaced with pergo, and the all of the walls, ceilings, and trim are being repainted. The job is supposed to start Saturday, and the materials were delivered today. I had to work, so my dad was kind enough to wait at the house to accept delivery. He called me recently with the following report:

Cases of Pergo ordered: 77. Delivered, 43.
Rolls of underlayment ordered: 15. Delivered, 0.
Paint was all delivered. Unfortunately, the delivery man dropped a 2 gallon can of ceiling paint, which is now all over my living room rug. I guess the carpet's being ripped out anyway, right?

So, if anyone else would like to chime in about their home repairs and related stress, please do so! Maybe it will help me feel better.

you're talking to the quenn of HI stress!

A compant started our house in August and is still working on it.
let me try and sum it up

1. we slept on matreesses between 2 rooms while the whole house was sheetrocked.
2 we added a seccond floor and a attic
3. the tile job on second floor bathroom is falling apart already
4. they sent the same guys today to do the 1st floor after i told them i didn't want them. so i took today off and no one is here.

5. the front door has such a bad draft we had to seal it off this past winter.

6. the floors on the second floor squeak so badly they take over the noise on the first floor

7. we've taken off so many days from all this, it's surprising i still have my job!

and don't i won't get into the electrician
sorry it was so long but you asked and i had to vent off :rotfl:

We remodeled our house a year and a half ago. We didn't have too much trouble with the work that was done (DH is a contrator). But we lived with my FIL for a year. THAT was horrible.

Good luck to everyone.

We are preparing to get a pool.

We are currently going back and forth on the design and getting someone we trust or that can give us the time of day! It is 'high season' now.

Once we do that, then they will tear our yard up for 2 months. We have 2 dogs, should be fun...NOT!!!!!

In the end it will be worth it...just keep repeating it to yourself. That is what I am going to do.

First thing I would do is call and find out where the rest of my stuff was.

I never had a problem with stuff like that but it seems like everytime we try to do anything in our house it turns into a bigger project than we had planned. We TRY to do a lot of things ourselves, but sometimes we do hire a contractor. Our latest was for a new floor in the kitchen and upstairs bathroom. We had to remove the old flooring and subfloor as per the contract. Bathroom is small, ceramic tiles (a lot of them were already loose, how hard could it be to remove them?) Well, the ones that wern't loose we ended up having to smash to pieces and pry up. Pulled up the subfloor to see linoleum underneath, got that up and then another subfloor to remove...and surprise! Mosaic tiles! These were in there really good and there was no way we were taking them up too! The contractor wouldn't put a subfloor over mosaic because he couldn't nail it down, made a huge case out of it because he had to use something called skim coat instead, which meant he had to come back the next day to finish up. Plus now when we go to put the sink back in the plumbing doesn't match up because the floor is lower, so we had to call a plumber in to redo the pipes. There is a huge gap between the door and the floor and it doesn't close right anymore.

Kitchen floor we went to pull up the old linoleum and it is GLUED down, it would rip off in teeny, teeny pieces..so after about an hour and only about 1 foot of flooring being done I quit. Contractor laid new sub floor over the top which makes my kitchen floor a tiny bit higher than my dining room (not his fault he did what he had to do) plus meant my basement door would not open up without scrapeing the crap out of the new stuff so we had to take the door off and plane it down.

I call it the joys of owning an older home. We are having the roof doen in about 1 month, I wonder what will go wrong with that job?

I did call to find out where everything is--they are calling me back, supposedly. I am being patient, and nice...for now, anyway.

Oh, and this summer we are having a new roof put on, the house re-sided, and the decks replaced. I am sure I will have even more to vent about as this job, and those, go on!

I can sympathize; we just did our kitchen and it's not fun at all. Kepp your eyes on the prize!

A funny story re: my neighbor though. Last summer, she came home to find loads/cases of hardwood flooring in her upstairs hallway. Thing is, she didn't know where it came from. She sent an email to everyone in the neighborhood to see if anyone is "missing" the hardwood floor :confused3 . Turns out, it was supposed to be delivered to the first house on a new street being built off our street. Well, she's the first house ON OUR street so they delivered it there  . She wasn't home but the door was unlocked so they just walked in and delivered it! I just thought it was the funniest "Goldilocks" moment!!!!!! :rotfl:

Can you imagine the look on her face when she saw the pile of flooring!?!
A couple of years ago my husband sold a house that needed a new roof, we sent the roofers over to do the job and they tore the roof off the house next door! ooops!! I wasn't there to witness it but I guess when the neighbors came home there was a good deal of excitement to say the least :rotfl:
