Yikes!!! We are in the process of finishing our basement. We hired guys to do the framing and drywall. My dh is right now in the process of putting up the trim work and it looks horrible. The corners are not matching, the trim does not look level, and he just framed a door and it looks like a 10 year old did it. We have the money to hire someone to do this but he is bent on proving that he is capable of doing this. I wanted to have someone install the doors but he insisted on doing it himself. He put one door in a couple of weeks ago and it is off balance and he chipped some of the framing.

So....................do I say something to him which would hurt his feelings or just keep my mouth shut and pretend that I don't notice the "problem areas" for the rest of my life? The rest of the basement looks nice but I am afraid that "his work" will be quite noticeable. Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!

does he ever travel for business? go out hunting?
DH tends to be sensitive about his forays into self improvement, so for us I would go with grin & bear it then the minute he was off for more than a weekend
I would hire fellows in to fix the job! :rotfl:

good luck!

Sounds like my house. DH has been putting up drywall, and wainscoting down in our family room. Some of it looks okay, but alot of it does look 'homemade' to me. But he thinks he is doing a great job. It's very hard not to say what I think. I am just resigned to the fact that someday when he is away with Boy Scouts or somewhere for a long weekend, I will have someone come in and fix a few of the most bothersome places.

DH did this with a door in our house. Eight hours later he consented to have me call someone. They told us that if they had done the job in the first place, it would have cost half what it cost to fix it!!!

I feel so sorry for you. The one area my DH is pretty good at is home improvement. The thing he is bad at is getting around to it sometimes.lol
I have to confess though it is my dad who gave him the basics in his skills and he has improved on them. Now when they get together to work on something there can be differences on opinions of how to do some things.
And no....I did not inherit any of my dad's stubborn tendencies........ :teeth:
