I had a great time. 8 days at WDW for my friend and my birthdays. He loves Disney so I make sure to bring him every year so he can enjoy it too.
The weather was HOT but I love the heat. With the exception of our time at AK I had no problems, but pushing his wheelchair in AK makes me a little more "dewy" than I like to be.
We flew down on Southwest with our $98 RT tickets. Flight was early arriving, and late to leave. No problem with that.
I had a rental car at National for $178 for an economy car for the 8 days. I checked with L&M to see if they could beat those rates and they upgraded me to a larger car for $150 total. I have always checked and have always gotten better rates at the desk from L&M.
We stayed at the Doubletree Club outside DTD. Ok hotel, but all we did was sleep there. I think it was worth the $42 per night Hotwire rate. I would put it in the AS quality, hall noise early in the am.
I used the vouchers for Beaches and Creme to share burgers and we had our own meals at Pepper Market. I think we did really well with the vouchers and it was easier to have the meals pre-paid, but without a car they wouldn't be worth the savings in time spent waiting for busses. We tried Port Orleans one night but liked Pepper Market much better.
I used an lunch voucher for my birthday meal at Rainforest. The lobster was great, but the steak was the toughest, worst tasting meat we had ever tasted. We each had an appetizer, a mixed drink, and our shared meal. We didn't want to try another steak so we sat around while the manager and server talked about how to compensate us for the difference. They decided that if we paid for the meal we could come back another time and use the voucher. Honestly the meat was so bad that we didn't think we would want to try it soon so we told them just to figure out what we owed. We used the voucher and paid them about $20 for the drinks and the other appetizer. I don't think I would try the lunch voucher again.
Parks were great, lines were long, but we had a great time. I could go to Epcot every day and just sit and watch the world walk by with a Margarita in my hand. Saw Wishes once, but saw Illuminations the rest of the time. I love that show. The flames were not working for 3 nights in a row, asnd some of the fireworks didn't go off, but they were perfect our last night.
I tried before we left to get an Illuminations cruise but had no luck. On Richie's birthday we waited at the dock and found a couple who were cruising alone and asked them if we could share the cruise with them. They agreed, and I paid them willingly. they had put their name on a list that morning and gotten a call that someone else cancelled. I never thought of doing that but glad they did. The cruise was good, but we found that the handicapped area and the area near Mexico are much better viewing areas.
All in all a great trip, and now I can't wait for the 4th when I get to see Illuminations again. Peggie
