Well since my last report, I was able to get some information from a cast member on why things were done, or not done during our latest visitor.
As usual it was sad to leave Disney, even though the last two days were spent in the rooms or resorts, but they did everything they could to make everyones stay as comfortable. I was suspicious that their reactions to Frances had something to do with how they handled Charley, and I was right. It seems that Disney took a lot of grief from the state about how late they stayed open, given the winds were over 40 mph during Charley. This time they took the cautious route even though I have been through worse weather in the summer as far as storms and rain, but better to be safe than sorry. They did open up Cape May Cafe, in the Beach Club, and kept it open all day, and even LOWERED THE PRICE!! Of course it was because they claimed not to have a full menu, ( we found out that meant that they didn't think they would have enough clams to last through the day.) We did splurge with that along with their new drink creation, the "Hurricane Frances". They set out games for the kids and the characters walked through the hotel every so often. The cast members were there the whole weekend also, many working 12-16 hour shifts. It was not strange to see a couple sacked out, in the breezeway in chairs, can't say that I blame them. Disney was also offering people 1/2 price on rooms that had to stay until Tuesday because of not being able to get flights out.
Yes, they still need to do a bit of cleaning up, as far as their EAP, but you have to admit, they haven't had to do this in awhile. I think 9/11 is the first time they have closed the parks.
Glad we went though, as I came home to a neighbors tree that had split in half and came crashing down on my fence, a neighbors fence that had given way and collapsed in our backyard, and of course no power until today.
I do hope Ivan does not decide Florida is the place to visit!!

glad that your damage was not to bad.......I heard that alot of the other resorts did a nice job with Charley and Frances......hope that all the cms have rested up and that Ivan goes to sea where they belong

we weathered frances at pop century and they did an awesome job... i was impressed by hwo they made the days as pleasant as they could, while dealing with something beyond their control!

as far as the parks ever being closed... first time was for hurricane floyd in 1999, we were there (left on the last plane to leave OIA)... second time was for 9/11/01, we had just left on 9/9... third time was for hurricane charley, we were confirming our plans as that came thru... fourth time was for frances and we were there! can you say BAD LUCK?!

My goodness, let me know when you are going again!! Just kidding. We used to come down every year from upstate NY. Now we go whenever we want. So if we hit a bad spell like this, it doesn't shake us that much. Hope your luck is better next time.

Hi we were there also, we left on 9/6. The CM's at the WL were great, they also had games for the kids in the lobby. A bar for the Big Kid's at heart. I think that some of the CM's had rooms in the lodge, we saw a couple on our floor. They must have had the rooms that were empty. Even with Frances our trip was great. Sorry to hear about you house. :wave2: :wave2: :wave2:

I agree, we were stranded at the Pop Century and they did everything they could to accommodate us. We ended up staying 7 extra days. :earseek: :earseek:

They had activities set up in the lobby, the characters came and they were able to open Everything Pop for us in time of dinner. However, they did not give any discounts on the food.

Overall, we had a great stay and would return to the Pop for future stays.
