Home from 11 day Norway-Iceland-Scotland cruise -- ask me anything!

I was on this trip as well. Truly amazing experience. I only did one Disney excursion in Scotland, and went through FAB travel in Iceland. Wonderful Guides and experiences on all. It is still surreal for me being back. I as well could not just pick one thing. All the countries were great for their own reasons. I was not expecting how expensive Iceland was however! Lunch one day of one chicken kids meal and one adult salmon meal = $50!

I'm assuming that even though it's July, it's still close enough to the summer solstice that your night was very short in Iceland?
I'm really hoping that because next years cruise out of Copenhagen is in August and we will be in Iceland on the 21-22; we will have longer nights and hopefully a better chance to see the northern lights pixiedust:
Anybody been to (or live in) Iceland mid/late August? I would like to know what to expect.
I was in Iceland the very end August of 2015. It was raining in Reykjavik, so I didn't see a thing, but I heard the next day they'd had amazing Northern Lights in another area of Iceland. If I'd've known, I'd have gotten there SOMEHOW! So it *is* possible.

Is Reykjavik canceled when it rains? :confused3

I think she meant she couldn't see the northern lights because of the rain. It just came out all wrong.

It was raining in Reykjavik, so it was cloudy, so I couldn't see anything in the sky. But I found out another area that didn't have clouds had an amazing Northern Lights show.

Wow, you should play the lottery! That's very unusual. I have a friend that's been to Iceland and Alaska hunting the NL's and has struck out every time. Maybe she just needs to travel with you. :)

Clayton was cruise director and Captain Andy was, well, the Captain! Who were you looking for?

I was actually asking about the Cruise Staff Team who work for Clayton running the family and adult activities on board like trivia, karaoke, bingo, dance parties, etc. They normally wear red and blue striped shirts.

I know Sean and Derrell are onboard right now if that helps? Don't know who else is...

Not really. :) I didn't see them. It was rainy and cloudy where I was. She needs to travel at the same time as me, but stay at the opposite end of the Island!!

We were also on this cruise and it was amazing. We were actually two of your tablemates - Matt and Sue. We hope you are adjusting back to the real world. We miss our serving staff and cabin steward!

MATT AND SUE! How wonderful -- I was JUST thinking of you! I'm so glad to see you here. If I get my lazy self to actually write that trip report and scan those Navigators, I hope you'll chime in with your thoughts. :)

Just found this thread - and I'm wondering just how rough those 2 days were. I'm so interested in this cruise, but have to wear a patch even for the milder ones. Did you ever do that trip report? I've been looking for one but haven't found it. :)

Not OP but I was on this cruise. I think it was only one bad day (and night).

The night before, the captain came on and said that seas were going to be rough. It was something we knew was coming (not a surprise out of the blue) so you'd be able to prepare. Our table mates were on their 11th cruise and they said they'd never heard a warning like that before. I asked our server (who'd been serving on the magic for 9 years) and she said that it was one of the worst days she'd ever experienced. She's HEARD of worse, but she, personally, wasn't on board for them. She also said that, though the seas were high, they were even waves and so, in her opinion, that was always easier to work with than unexpected storms or something with more uneven seas.

That said, aside from being unable to walk in a straight line, I wasn't bothered at all. I've never really felt sea sick, so I don't know how it works - if larger seas make you sicker or once your sick, you're sick. That said, it was an AMAZING cruise!!

No northern lights?! Are they ever visible on this cruise? Is this a 'peak' price time for this cruise in August?

No norther lights. Too bright out. It only gets "dark" for a couple of hours and not dark enough for NL. (Technically they're they're you just can't see them because the sun doesn't go down).

Winter is best bet.
