The 4'th is just around the corner. What what do you do?

We can't shoot fireworks off here, so we usually go to Gatlinburg TN. We rent a cabin with lots of flat property and just have at it. Great times. We then sit on the porch and watch everyone else's firework shows!!

Kinda takes the fun out of it tho!!

We areb't supposed to light up fireworkers here either but we have in the past and the cop across the street lightts them off every year. I expect to have the usual house full of kids here, my DH usually has to work holidays like tgat so we never plan on going anywhere.

There is a state park just a couple of miles down the road that put on a big show every year and a private club (Elk's) just a couple of miles in the other direction that puts one on; so we go to one of those every year. After the show we stop and get lots of fireworks and come home for dd and whichever friends are here and dh to set them off.

Depends on where we are. We usually find a show and go watch. When home (Ohio) for the holidays, my brother, and his neighbors throw great parties with lots of fireworks--you can set on his lawn and see them in all directions- fun times:goodvibes

Since they are illegal here, every town puts on a show, so not only do we enjoy our town's show, which is great, but you can see all of the other town's shows. If I wasn't so lazy, I could drive a few miles, and view NYC's show. Can't imagine anyone doing their own (although people do really little ones) when there are huge productions costing thousands of dollars.

I hate people who set off fireworks in their yards. First of all, its illegal here. Second - I know a guy named Dead Eye - guess how he got that name! Its just not safe - leave it to the professionals

The home shows aren't all that expensive. I know when we visited my Dad in MO a few summers ago the home shows were pretty impressive but looking at the prices at the fireworks stands people probably spent under $500.

We can only do small fireworks here--nothing that can "fly" although some still buy in Wisconsin and SD so we watch the neighbors put on their shows and light a few small ones of our own. The neighboring town does a large show that we can watch from our front yard.

What I meant was, because it's illegal here to set off fireworks, the towns go all out with the fireworks shows, spending tens of thousands of dollars - there's no way a homemade show could compare, especially since it's illegal, so it would have to be kept small.

You forgot "both."

We go to our town's show and then come home and do minor fireworks(sparklers, ground flowers, fountains, etc) at home.

Hate the fireworks, not the people. ;)

We only do the little ones (that stay on the ground) and our kids are not allowed near them. We're very safety concious.

Hey, when you shoot your guns off, do you make sure that your kids are a "good distance" away from them, too? It doesn't make a difference how you justify it, its still dangerous, and illegal in most states.

I don't shoot any guns off, so the question is irrelevant. I choose not to hate, but if it's what floats your boat, go right ahead.

We make sure our little ground flowers and fountains are a safe distance away from anyone. No need for your concern. Oh, and it's legal here.

It's illegal where I am too but that doesn't stop my stupid neighbor. And because he's the volunteer fire chief the cops just completely ignore him. Unfortunately they also get drunk, jump in the car, drive extremely fast to get to fire calls to help others that have set their freaking lawns on fire.

And yes, they set the town lawn on fire (next to my fence), another neighbor's roof on fire, launched them at a car on my property, etc. They also develop beer muscles. They set the fireworks off until about 1 a.m. I now have a DD that is afraid of fireworks because they go off outside of her bedroom window and a dog that freaks out over the loud booming. If the fireworks were legal I would suck it up and deal with it. As everything is completely illegal in NJ and the cops refuse to do anything (and yes, its a very small town) I get angry. We find their fireworks debris in my yard every year. They never clean up any of their garbage. And they wonder why we get angry.

I have now taken to going away over the 4th and just hire a housesitter. I can't take my DH getting pissed, my annoying obnoxious neighbor and a child that is freaking out. :sad2:

And BTW, we live in a town with very small yards. I have a "big" piece of property in my town and the whole thing is 75x100. We're not talking acre size lawns. :sad2:

These are what we do after going to the city show. Fireworks that stay on the ground are legal in Oregon.

And btw, for the other poster who mentioned guns, the only person who shoots currently in my family is my 11 year old. He has a Red Rider BB gun for shooting cans on his grandpa's undeveloped land.

We go over to town.. They're illegal in NY - and even more dangerous up here at the lake because it's so thickly wooded.. Of course that doesn't stop people from shooting off fireworks, setting the trees on fire, burning holes in peoples boat covers by the lake, having them land on peoples cars, etc..

Couple of years back someones camp went up in flames - with lots and lots of big "bangs" - they had fireworks stored inside.. They tried to weasel their way out of it, but they got hauled off by the Sheriff's Department.. Lucklily no neighbors houses caught on fire - nor was anyone hurt.. If so, there would have been some hefty lawsuits that followed..

Used to do a home fireworks show, but last year I actually was fined pretty steeply for a noise ordinance violation. A professional show is safer and actually easier to go to, since so many places do it.
