We have a new Lowes store opening near us next week and have never been in one. I like Home Depot, but will I like Lowes more? :confused3

Hmmm, hard to say. I've been to both but I have a Home Depot by my house. I don't like one better than the other. But then again my DH usually does all the handiwork around the house. :confused3

I go first to Lowes and if I have to then I'll go to Home Depot, but it is just across the street from Lowes.

I like Lowe's better. Ours has a bigger selection of products (which made a huge difference when we were recently remodeling our home).

But, I don't dislike our Home Depot. Plus, they have Disney paint. ::MickeyMo

Really, I like that where I live they are right next door to one another, so if one doesn't have what I'm looking for, I can check out the other!

I prefer Lowe's, they have a nicer and bigger selection of things, plus their prices are always just right. This is not saying that I don't like Home Depot, just that there isn't as big a selection.

Where we live in WI Home Depots and Lowes are not allowed. We only get Menards and, lucky us, we are getting another one.

We do both; we like some things at Lowe's better (like appliances, and their designs of things like fans and lights are nicer in my opinion), but Home Depot had awesome deals on carpet and some beautiful slate tile for our master suite. So we comparison shop a lot. It's great to have choices.

I think Lowes has a larger selection of products. Home Depot has a better selection of plants and flowers.

Avoid both like the plague. In this case I'll gladly pay more at the local hardware store and be able to find people to help. They also seem to have more selection. More it more it seems chains like Lowes have a contract to only carry one brand of the most popular items.

I agree with Cardaway but I voted for Home Depot because between the 2, I like them better. We are having granite counter tops put in our kitchen. We cut out the middle man and went with a private guy who had better prices, better selection and way friendly.

We dont' have a Home Depot, and I've never been in one, so I had to say Lowes.

I picked Lowes only because that's where I usually go since it's closer to my house. Home Depot is not that far either, only 2 extra miles than Lowes. They seem to be about the same to me.

I can never find anything - or any assistance - in Home Depot! I love Lowes!

We prefer Lowes, but we have a Home Depot in front of our subdivision. If we are near the Lowes we go there, but if we are just running out to buy some mulch or something like that we'll just hit the Home Depot.

If I'm looking for parts and supplies I'll go to Home Depot. If I'm looking for appliances and "finished" products I'll go to Lowes.

Home Depot always seems like a place for real do it yourselfers. Lowes always seems like a store to me.

I HATE Menards and try to avoid going there at all costs! :furious:

My DH also prefers Lowes. He's a true "do-it-yourselfer". There is no project too big or too small for him. My brother says it's because he's a tightwad. :rotfl:
Home Depot does not carry wallpaper books. :confused3 But there is a small Home Depot 5 minutes from home. So I got my wallpaper at Lowes and all my paint & supplies at Home Depot. They don't carry the same brands of paint and I was amazed to find that Glidden colors do not match exactly to Baer colors.

Around here, Lowe's is better for fancier appliances, lights, etc. If you just need the nuts and bolts, HD is the place. But if you don't know how to do your project, HD is NOT the place for you! My husband spends more time in there explaining plumbing pieces and parts to other people trying to figure out what they need than actually buying things himself.
