Has anyone had any experience with any of these? We are thinking of getting new siding on our home and give the recent trouble we have had with a contactactor, I was thinking of calling on them? Was looking for any input:confused:

A few years ago I had a new door and sidelite installed. They did a great job! :)

We 've had kitchen flooring and carpeting installed through Home Depot and I believe the work was subcontracted. I had problems with both installations and I don't think I'd use them again.

We had some carpeting installed by Home Dept (or whoever they use) and didn't have any problems.

I've never used them and would not. Home Depot does use subcontractors and some are great and some are not. So, which one will you get? Besides, the subs are not getting paid as well as they could if they did the job themselves. So therefore, they will do a better job if you hire them directly - and it would be less expensive.

Besides, did you ever try to call your contact at HD? You have to know their hours, department, extension, etc. before you can even get the them. Then if you do, you also have to rely on their memory (will they remember you, your project, your contractor - do they have an sure fire way to contact the contractor without added time going by). I believe many people use HD as a price point, then go to an in-town store or installer to get the job done right.

ACH! My sister used Expo Design, which is part of Home Depot for her bathroom & kitchen remodel. It seems rather cruel to remove someone's ONLY toilet and not replace it for 5 months!! They were so slow on working on her project. And yes, they use sub-contractors - so it's better to hire the contractors yourself. My sister used them because she didn't want to have to do the hiring. It took her months to realize that she had to stay on top of things in order to get anything done. Expo assigned a project manager who was supposed to keep things on track - but they gave her a different guy one month into the remodel and the second guy acted like nothing was his fault - since he didn't start the job. I could go on and on - just suffice it to say: I'll never use Home Depot or Expo Design!

I used Home Depot to remodel my kitchen last year. They do use outside contracters, but we had absolutely no problems at all. Our rep was wonderful, and called us twice after the work was done to make sure we were happy with the job. The contractors had the kitchen done in 4 days.

The guys that installed my door and sidelite left me a business card with all their info and phone number. He was more than happy to have me call him if there was a problem. But no problems, thank goodness.

We are doing MAJOR renovations to our house and have recently had Home Depot install carpets in bedrooms on 2 separate occasions. Each time they were very good and in one instance I asked him to patch something unrelated for me and he did so at no charge. (DH was shocked!) I will also be using them to install corian countertops in the next few months. Having said that, however, I'm not sure I would use them for siding. We recently had our house re-sided and used a local guy (whom our contractor recommended and who did our neighbor's house) with a good reputation. He was maybe a little more expensive, but he backed up his work 110%.

We had them do a relatively simple job, a Corian bathroom sink (double sinks). Well first they wanted me to measure, I said you know what, I'm paying you guys for installation, so YOU come out and measure, YOU are the professionals here, I'm just a weekend warrior. That's were thinks went downhill.

They came out and measured, drew up a nice plan and everything...great right - 10 weeks later (not a typo ten weeks) later we get our countertop. They come out to install it and you'll never guess...they screwed it up. Short on the end by about 8 inches...no problem they say, we'll be able to glue an extension on. %$@#&$%#&$# OH NO you won't. They finally saw it my way, and within 2 days made a new one, installed it and gave us back 10% for our trouble.

Anyway, that was our experience with HD's installers and/or subcontractors.

I'm on the side of not using Home Depot too. We bought our kitchen counter top from them and the sub who came out and measured was great said it would be ready in 3 weeks etc. After not having it for 6 weeks we finally got it bought they hadn't ordered enough material so we didn't have a backsplash. The contractor didn't have the nerve to tell me he just sent out the installer and let him break the news. It took another 4 weeks to finally get it.

You really have no control over the contractor. We had to pay HD the full price up front and then had no leverage over the contractor. It was a pain and we won't ever use them to install anything else. Godd luck with your remodeling job.
