Home Decor

Slightly off topic, but I watched the movie The Post weeks ago, and noticed a very familiar 70's-80's Rubbermaid pitcher that we used constantly! Any of you have this? Came in various colors.

i have always given tremendous credit to 'that 70's show' set decorator-the attention to detail with the 70's era props were outstanding. watching it had me notice so many items common in 70's homes (including some that were exclusive to trading stamps catelogs).

don't forget the iconic oil 'rain' lamps-small plastic statues in a cage of string with cooking oil cascading down the strings :crazy2:

There is a tacky furniture store near me that still sells things like those string oil lamps and trapezoidal bedroom dressers covered in mirrors.

It’s not retro-chic or throwback; it’s for people who actually think that stuff is klassy.

one of my jobs in the early 80's was working in a furniture store. i was charged with cleaning the display items so i spent most of my time cleaning mirrored and glasstop items. the stuff that was out of a child's reach was'nt bad but i cringe whenever i see a designer on one of those hgtv shows select a dining room or coffee table with a clear glass top for a house with small kids-they are kid magnets and you will spend your life climbing under them to remove finger and lip prints :crazy2:

i remember one of my mom's friends doing a 'refresh' of her living room in the 70's-she was so proud of her raining oil lamp which was hung adjacent to a large wall covered with dozens and dozens of those gold and black swirly mirror squares. i think about it now and it must have been a nightmare to remove them years later when they fell out of style.

if you watch the shows on hgtv and magnolia this stuff is in demand for the 'mid century modern vibe':crazy2:

that green shag carpet speaks to me-we had it wall to wall in everything but the kitchen and bathrooms when i was a kid.
WE had shag carpets too. I liked raking the rug as a kid. Our rake was a plastic one specially made for shag carpets.
