Well, before I fill you all in on the events of our second evening of entertainment, I thought I'd share another interesting story of our pin pursuits while on the cruise.
Hubby and I met on a singles trip to EPCOT back in 1983. We hit it off pretty good as friends that day. But neither one of us was looking for romance. He had just been ousted from a less than admirable marriage, and I had dated every frog in my church.
None of them becoming a prince. So we both decided to just be friends and keep each other company. Yeah right!!! 10 months later we honeymooned at WDW, mostly at our favorite park, EPCOT. We have celebrated almost every anniversary there since. When we caught the pin addiction last april, we found out about the honeymoon pins. And they fast became our pursuit and holy grails. Well, we managed to get them all with the excpetion of the Cruise Line pin of Ariel & Eric.
So before going on cruise, I called the cruise line and asked them about Fred and I doing a Vow Renewal while on the cruise with our pin pals. Sure they could do it, no problem!.....
for $1,000.00!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIKES!!! That was more than the cruise itself!! They bragged that it included a nifty certificate, a cake, flowers and such. But as someone who does wedding catering and cake and floral design, I was NOT impressed with the price tag. So we passed. Thankyou!!
So on our second day, I decided with hubby, why not ask, the worst they could do is say, "sorry-NO!. So we went to guest services, talked with a nice guy named Werner, and shared our sappy love story and how WDW was our magical place, and how we had all the honeymoon pins and would love to have the cruise one as well for our personal collection.
Wellllll, he said he would check with a manager, but said it would be tough as there were so VERY MANY pin people on this cruise and they were not giving out ANY pins, birthday or otherwise because of it.
So a guest services manager, Marianna came out with a little paper bag, and told us this was quite out of the ordinary, and how very special this pin was. We told her we completely understood. She "SWORE" us to complete and UTTER SECRECY. We could not tell or show anyone till we were off the cruise. And with that she handed us the little paper bag and said do not open it till we get to our stateroom.
We went swiftly to our room, and took it out, opened the box and I squealed with delight. Fred was all grins!!
We just could not believe how blessed we were to have this pin to add to our others. You can just imagine!!
We then tucked it into our safe and went back to guest services where I gave both Werner and Marianna my "Thanks For the Magic" CM award pin. We awarded several of those on the cruise. The first one I gave one to on the cruise was the "PIN MAN", Jim Green himself. That was a treat. He loved the pin as well. And yes, he saw the hidden Mickey and just grinned. He thought it was a neat idea.
