Is the MOVIE capital of the Earth an Ultra-Glam place...or a trash hole? Just wondering guys

Yes.... to both questions! And I can't figure which one I like best, Trashywood or Glamwood. Of course, for some people, they're the samething.

Not really all that. There are a few spots that are fun, but a lot of it is at best ordinary and at worst trashy. There's not a lot of "there" there. If you are in the area anyway, go check out the neighborhood, but I wouldn't make it a special trip.

For years Hollywood had been know to us locals as "Hollyweird" - a very seedy place. That is changing, in particular around Hollywood Blvd. and Highland Blvd. That area has the Mann's Chinese Theater with the footprints in cement, Disney's/Pacific's El Capitan theater (beautifully restored) and the gleaming new theater/shopping complex, Hollywood and Highland. This is where the Kodak theater is which is now the home of the Oscar ceremonies. Much of Hollywood, inclulding parts of Hollywood Blvd., still needs a lot of cleaning up. If you stick to the area around Hollywood and Highland, you should feel pretty safe because of the number of people walking around. Between Highland and Vine on Hollywood Blvd., I probably would only walk during the daytime.

We are going to Hollywood for the day along with our Disneyland trip. I know my daughter will be shocked by some of the weirdo's around. I think mostly we will be to see the footprints and star walk. It has been many many years since I have been in that area so I might be in for a surprise also.
