Hollywood & Vine vs Mama Melrose for Fantasmic pkg?

Good Morning!

Looking for opinions. We've never eaten at H & V but have dined at MM many times. We like MM but I'm considering trying H & V this time. How's the food and atmosphere there? Do you think one is much better than the other?

H&V is one of the only places that we never have the desire to go back to. We'd choose MM over H&V any day. We're not really fans of buffets anyway other than Biergarten. But that's just us.

I have eaten at both Mama Melrose's and H&V. I would choose the H&V. My family prefers buffets and H&V has a nice selection. Mama Melrose's is good, but it really was nothing different than Italian food that I could eat at home. H&V offered a large variety and had very yummy desserts.

We did H&V once and it was HORRID! The food, the service and the hour wait past our ADR time...no way would I ever go back to this place.

MM is very good! Sci Fi is awesome too

Thanks, I should have said I'm trying to decide on one for a Fantasmic dinner. One thing I'm concerned about is what we can choose from at Mama Melrose - isn't is a more limited menu? Does anyone know where I can find the menu?

That's one reason I was thinking about H & V, I figured everyone could find something they liked with a buffet. H & V confuses me because it seems that the reviews I read are split and very opposite - just like here!

We've done all three FDP - Mama Melrose's twice, Hollywood Brown Derby thre times and Hollywood and Vine once.

We would NEVER go back to H&V. It was loud, dirty and the food was so unappetizing. We also had a really bad server and could hardly get any drink orders filled.

We have been to both H & V and Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic dinner package and we liked both, but given a choice we preferred Mama Melrose. H & V is a typical Disney buffet, meaning it's loud & busy. If you're wanting a little bit more relaxed/mellow meal time, I'd choose Mama Melrose. You choose off the regular menu at Mama Melrose.

with the Fantasmic dinner package you get an appetizer, entree, dessert & beverage.

Well, if you can choose off the regular menu without restrictions I think we're going back to Mama Melrose! It's been years I think since I've done the Fantasmic dinner - we usually don't bother - but this will be a busy time so thought it'd be a good idea. But back when we did it they handed us a one page special menu for the dinner - if they don't do that anymore that sounds good.

I would choose Mama Melrose's as its the superior place. As a note, H&V charges you the same whether you have the package or not, as opposed to the fixed price of Mama's

I've always wanted to try H & V but have never gotten the chance. I ate at the BD once and hated it. Too fancy for me.

We think of H&V as one of the *worst* dining experiences we've ever had at WDW.

The food was cold and terrible, the cast members all looked like they'd rather be getting a root canal than working there and the dining area had dozens of dirty tables and trash and food on the floor.

Never again.

MM's while not great, has been MUCH better for us.

Is it too late to recommend the BD ?

No, it's not to late for BD! Because after furiously working and reworking our ADR plan this afternoon I've ended up with the BD on July 5th. I gave up MM on July 7th if anyone is interested. BD was the only restaurant available for Fantasmic on the 5th, probably cause it takes two credits - but we are going for it!

BTW, I've spent a couple of hours on the phone making a handful of ADR's, all kinds of glitches happening with the new reservation system, I hope they work it out soon!

Glad to hear you are not going with the H & V. We ate there once and that was enough. We always choose MM or BD for our Fantasmic pkg, and have always had wonderful meals.

H&V is the top Disney restaurant we will NEVER go back to. We try to give every place two tries. God, wish we had stopped after one. Horrible service; filthy restaurant, lousy, lukewarm food--when there was food. Never again. Stick with Mama Melrose.

That's so sad about H & V, it would have been nice to have a goodlower cost alternative when you need one.
