We are planning on taking advantage of the VIPassholders days and doing a character meal, something we never do because of the high price tag. Our options are lunch at Hollywood & Vine or lunch at Tusker House.

It’s just DH and I. He loves DHS and is not an adventurous eater. I know Tusker House has better food and the characters in their safari costumes are super cute.

Which would you pick?

Coming from a very bland/picky eater myself... I'd go Tusker House.

If I may offer an alternative that you may both enjoy then I'd say do Garden Grill.

Garden Grill isn’t one of the restaurants with the 40 % off

Hollywood & Vine- the characters are in seasonal costumes so it’s not the regular costumes that they normally wear in the parks. OP, have you ever eaten at Boma for dinner? Tusker is going to be similar to that.

H&V is sooo crowded. Tusker has some rooms off on the side. And the food is better.

Tusker is our favorite character meal and the only one we consistently do. There are "normal" food options there as well but the chefs make really flavorful foods packed with spices without being too offensive to a typical bland loving palate.

I wanted to do Tusker House but my husband was a hard no on that one. I just cant get him into the food at AK/AKV. I did take him to Sanaa years ago and he was not loving it. So this recent trip I got just the bread service to go at Sanaa.. he ate it but was not happy about it. He can handle spicy as he is Hispanic but not spice he just doesnt do well with flavors like cumin, and curry. He did okay at the Boma breakfast though.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to Hollywood and Vine, but I remember my wife and I did not like the food there so we never went back. Tusker House we still usually go every trip, I think it’s one of the better places food wise at WDW. So I would say Tusker House.

Tusker House is way better but avoid "changeover" time when they're switching from breakfast to lunch. Their service gets really janky in the late mornings and you might wait forever to be seated or for the characters to come to your table, and you might have a hard time getting an omelet made or other breakfast foods.

Either is fine, but different. If you are going to be at HS do H&V. The seasonal costumes are cute. We like both meals, pick whichever fits your schedule best. We are doing Tusker this trip because the discount works for the date we are there.

I have never actually eaten at Hollywood & Vine, but Tusker House has long been a favorite and is always good.

We picked Tusker house. We do one character meal per trip. We had reservations for 1900 since we have not done it yet. But that 40% was just too good to ignore. We have been both to Tusker and Hollywood & Vine. We love the food and spacing better at Tuskers. I do love Hollywood and Vine during like Halloween or XMas for their cute holiday wear... but during summer their outfits are nothing special soo Tusker house is our choice.

i just think Tusker house is much yummier to eat. i have never really enjoyed hollywood vine as much.

We are Tusker House fans. Even gone there twice in one trip. I tend to like more bland foods but I always find a ton at Tusker to love. Some of our best character interactions have been at Tusker.

Both are great and with this 40% off even better! I find the character interactions better at H&S and the food better at Tusker. We keep returning to both so for me the choice would just go to logistics and our schedule… which park/day worked best to do this type of meal. I tend to save in-park character buffets for days we plan long hours in that park and won’t have time/energy to eat any meals outside the park that day.

We've had several great meals at Hollywood & Vine. I think the trick is to book the first lunch reservation of the day. There is a pause in between breakfast and lunch since the characters change. When you book the first lunch ADR, it's less crowded and everything is fresh. It's also bright and sunny and the characters have seasonal costumes which can be really fun depending on the time of year.

I was a little bit disappointed in lunch at Tusker House in 2024. We are adventurous eaters- but there aren't as many buffet options as there used to be, and the dessert options were weak in my opinion. If your husband is a non-adventurous eater I still think he could make a meal out of it- they do have staples like salmon and mac and cheese.

Tusker house imo is much better but my go to strategy on Tusker house is late breakfast. You get to eat the breakfast and when they turn over to lunch get that as well but pay the breakfast price. I’ve not done the math but imagine this strategy likely is similar cost to the discount.
