We have reservations at H&V for the FDP. We originally wanted Mama Melrose but they didn't have anything available when we called. I've heard good and bad things about H&V. I figure if we end up not liking it our reservations are early enough that we can grab something else before the show.

So what are your opinions on it?

We like it. Of course we like Golden Corral and Country Buffet too. If the only time you like a buffet its Chef Mickey or Boma, then it wont stand up, but if your family ever eats at a typical american buffet place, I think youll be pleasantly suprised by H & V. Try the spooned cornbread, its Delish!

It is a basic buffet. But my family along with my girl scout troop ages 15-16 seemed to enjoy it. Everyone can get want they want. And the 3 times that we have eaten there we have had great service...whether it was just the 4 of us or 14 of us. However, we only eat there when we are able to get the FDP, other wise there are other better buffets at Disney.:thumbsup2

Thanks. We like Golden Corral and Ryan's. It's our first time eating table service restaurants at Disney. The two times I've been before we just at counter service places. We do have Chef Mickey's booked (twice actually) but it is after H&V. It's actually for our first night there. Decided to get it that night in case Fanstamic got rained out so we could possibly see it another night.

Oh, that sounds yummy! But since DS has a milk allergy we'll have to see how they want to handle that. When we booked we were told that he would just eat off our plate but that was also before he was officially diagnosed with the allergy. I'm still waiting to hear back from on an answer from them.

Thanks. We do have the FDP. We opted to get it because I can't see us standing in line with a 3 and 1 year old for too long in the regular line.

Glad to know both of you liked it. Makes me feel better.

You are right--it gets mixed reviews. We hate it and we will never step foot in it again. We usually give each place two tries in case we hit it on an off night. Well, two strikes and they are out--not giving them a third try.

We like it. Nothing fancy. Nice variety. Only when coupled with the FDP though. Our choice would be to eat elsewhere without the package.

We got a last minute ADR there on our last trip I thought is was just ok. Not bad not great. Limited deserts though

You were smarter than we were. We've ate there three times and never did like it. Oh, well, three strikes and you're out. We won't be back.

Desserts are bad. A few of the entrees are good. If you don't care about dessert it might work for you.

We liked it fine. It's nothing special but actually, I found more things there that I preferred over Boma if you can beleive it.

The metal chairs on the the other hand were a tad cold on the posterior though with the AC cranked up.

We hated it, terrible service and terrible food (dinner)

When we went in 2006 i was afraid after hearing not so good things, but booked anyway for Fantasmic. I warned my husband of the things I heard before we went and he thought I was crazy. He said I must have confused what I had heard or mixed up restaurants. The food wasn't like Le Cellier but was very good. Everyone in my party found plenty of things to eat and I have three PICKY eaters! You have to take everyones comments with a grain of salt.:cheer2:

We went March 2008 and the food was terrible as was the service. Our waitress confronted the man at the table behind us saying, "Sir, excuse me, but was my service bad?"

The man answered with a confused, "I'm sorry?". She said, "Well, I noticed your leaving and not leaving me a tip. You DO realize the dining plan doesn't include tip right? I'm just wondering why you aren't leaving me a tip."

He kinda stammered around a bit and finally his wife stood up and said something about not having any extra money on them and she was sorry. And she said since it was a buffet she felt a tip wasn't needed, especially since their drinks weren't refilled more than once, but considered it rude for the waitress to confront them in the open like this. She wanted a manager immeadiately.

The scene got pretty ugly from there and then the waitress tried bringing us into it asking us if we were happy with her service and if we were going to leave a tip. A manager never came.

We finally decided we were done and wanted to leave.

For the record, we didn't leave a tip, but did leave before the waitress could confront us about it. I was embarrassed for the family behind us, and chose not to leave a tip as indication that the waitress behavior was unacceptable. It was very awkard, insulting to everyone there, and very unmagical experience for all those involved.

And like I said, the food was TERRIBLE.

sorry - another vote for hate it! That is one restaurant that i will never step foot in again. Very lousy service and lousy food.

It is just a basic buffet...but, we like it as it offers such a variety for picky eaters...and we'll all go there...as we do every year...in February...;)

We don't like it very much at all I don't guess I would say I hate it, it is just okay at best. We have eaten their twice two years apart to get the fantasmic dinner package. To us the food is just fair and we did not like the variety at all and we like Golden Corral, Ryans and buffets like that. I ended up eating Chicken off the kids bar. We have all three agreed we never want to eat there again we will try one of the other resturants next time we want a fantasmic dinner package. That being said we had friends with us that ate there one night and they said it was one of their favorite meals all week.

It is good if you have children. There is a lot of variety and I thought the food was decent. Not outstanding, just decent.

Several have remarked on the bad service, but when we ate there in '06 we had the best service I've ever had at WDW. There was a problem with our media, and Michael took care of it while we ate with specific instructions os what to do when we got back to the resort. Our drinks were constantly filled and he even let us know a couple of times when something different was put on the bar. The food was okay to me, and (ex) gf loved it.

Thanks for all the comments. I wanted to know what you all thought of it....be it good, bad, or ugly. I wanted honest opinions. And I thank you for them. :thumbsup2

I'll remember to throw in a sweater and/or jacket. I tend to be on the chilly side in some places anyway, even when others aren't. Thanks for the information.

I know not everyone will like each place. I also know that I could end up not liking it while DH or my mom might like it. DD is on the picky side but DS will eat anything even some things he isn't suppose to eat due to his allergy.

Holy crap! That waitress was beyond rude. We don't leave a tip if the service is bad as an indication to the waitress/waiter that we weren't happy/service needed to be improved, etc. DH probably would have found a number to some place and called if it had been us....but that is my DH.

I really wanted to eat at Mama Melrose but they didn't have any available tables when we called.

We have two children.
