Please tell me about the Hollywood & Vine character lunch... How is the food...what did you like most? How is the character interaction? Thank you in advance!!
Have never done the lunch. We did the dinner twice and were not pleased with the food at all...most of it lukewarm or cold, and they were always running out of items and taking forever to replace. And the service was not very good.
Over all it's cute but I will warn you that not all of the characters come to your table. They say it's interactive and you can just go and get your pictures and autographs at will. I wish we knew that before all the characters dissapeared. We got a late seating 3pm but that shouldn't have mattered. About 15 minutes after we got there ALL THE CHARACTERS WERE GONE. DD loves JOJO and that was the main reason we went. It was confusing because several characters came to our table and JOJO was on the other side of the restaurant going to tables. Then all of a sudden they were all gone. DD was of course in tears and we were told she(JoJO) had to go be in the parade and that they were sorry, But you should have of gone up to her because it's interactive. Needless to say we had a rough afternoon until we went to MGM the next day and tracked down JOJO. SOOO don't get a late seating and don't be polite and wait for them to come to you.
The food was fine - nothing special but we thought it was better than the food at dinner at CM. Service was fine when we were there.
The character interaction was great! The characters (Leo, June, Jojo and Goliath) all came to the table and they had a dance party about every 20 minutes. DD got to dance with Leo and with Goliath. She was 3.5 at the time and had a great time! It was packed but we still got plenty of character time.
We will be doing the lunch for our third time in Nov. My daughter LOVES Jojo and the Little Einsteins! The food is OK- not great at all, but fine. They have a nice selection of kid food, but the adult selection is a little lacking....but we are not there for the food.
The interaction is GREAT!! We've done several character meals, and for character interaction, this one (and Chef Mickey's) are the best IMHO. The characters come around to all the tables and then every maybe 15 mins or so, there is a dance party of Playhouse Disney music and 2 dancers come out and all the characters gather and everyone dances. Kids are encouraged to get up and dance with them. I have the best pics of my kids dancing with the characters....it is so cute!
I am sorry to hear that someone was disappointed at dinner. We have done it three times and found it to be very good. We usually go to Disney during the off season so maybe during peak times they run out of food more often. I have never done the lunch. I hope that you find it good.
We did an early lunch the first week of March and it was not great.
We had been there 45 minutes before a character had come to our table.
We asked a CM when they were going to be on our side and he said it took at least 1 hour and 15 minutes for they all to come around to tables. We were there over 2 hours to get to see all of them. My ds loves Little Einsteins so there was no way I was leaving until Leo and June came over.
Food was okay.

We ate there in Feb and wasn't thrilled with the food. Also there weren't many characters and it took forever for the few they had to come to the tables.
Went to the lunch on 8/23 without and ADR and got seated immediately. Really, no wait!!!
The food was actually one of the best meals I had during my trip. The pasta with mushrooms was fantastic, as was the Spanish rice, garlic mashed potatoes, steak, fresh mozzarella and tomatoes...even the bread was good.
The character interacation was also very good. My DS loved to get up and sing and dance with JoJo and Goliath.
And yes, all the characters will come to your table and yes, in a timely fashion. Much better then Chef Mickey's in my opinion; where we left before seeing everyone.
We were just there in July, and my family agrees it was one of our best meals! Not really because of the food...it was good...not outstanding but good. The character interaction is what made it great! Like someone mentioned before we saw a few characters twice since it wasn't crowded. When my daugher(who was in the bathroom) missed Jojo, I asked her CM if we could get a pic before we left and it was no problem at all. She worked us into her rotation of tables.
Definitely one of my kids faves as they love the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse songs. They got up and danced several times to these.
It does add up, doesn't it? I feel your pain as our DS just turned 3 and got a lot more expensive to take to WDW.
Maybe you could make ADRs for a late breakfast seating (11-ish). We usually do character meals this way because it's a bit cheaper and tides us over for both breakfast and lunch. When we went to Hollywood and Vine last time @11 we were able to eat breakfast and by the end of the meal the waitress encouraged us to try some of the lunch items the were just putting on the buffet.
