Hi,
We plan on spending one of our days at Hollywood Studios. That day we also plan to meet my grandmother, who lives in Orlando, for dinner. She suggested Chef Mickey. She needs no park admission and can park for free. Has anyone done this and can recommend the time needed to take the bus from HS to CM? Or does someone have another suggestion on where to meet her for dinner? She is not interested in going to the parks as she in her 80's and can't do the hot days. Also we will be relying solely on the WDW transportation. It will be 4 adults and 4 children ranging from 2 - 10.

Thanks in advance!

The bus from DHS to the Contemporary is approximately a 20 minute ride. I would allow an hour of travel time before your ADR just to be safe. You never know how long or short of a wait you will have for a bus. I think Chef Mickey's is a fun place to eat. Was just there a few days ago.

We did this in reverse (Chef Mickey's to HS) and once the bus arrived, it only took about 15 minutes. But…the key part was the bus arriving. It was early morning (8:15ish) and we waited at least 30 minutes for the first HS bus to come by. When it was time to leave the park mid-day, we jumped on another bus to the Polynesian, where we were staying, and were lucky to get on right before it left. Again, travel time was 15 minutes. Supposedly the buses come every 20 minutes but if you just miss one, that will extend the time. I'd give yourselves at least an hour. It will also depend what time you're going and how many others are in line to go to the Contemporary.

Thanks so much, let me also say we are going to Chef Mickey for breakfast our first day there. So there is no "pressure" to go there. It was just what my grandmother had suggested. An hour both ways with a 2 year old might be a little much. I may be looking for something a little closer to HS then.

What about someplace around the Epcot resorts? Then you could boat or walk there from HS. We had our 3 year old with us and he thought the bus ride was pretty neat, so the time didn't bother us. But…it also wasn't at the end of a long day in a park!

If your grandma can't get into the park, the closest options will be at the Boardwalk.
How about Cape May, which is a 15-20 min boat ride away from DHS? No characters for dinner, but the seafood buffet is really good. In my opinion, boat always is better than bus!

Might want to check out the restaurants at the Dolphin. Are you not going back to your room before dinner? Maybe something closer to your resort?

Cape May, Trattoria AL Forno, Captains Grille, and Garden Grove Cafe are all a short boat ride or walk away at the Epcot area resorts.

Another option might be Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge - lots of fun, energetic. If you want something quieter and a bit more upscale, Artist Point is also at WL and very good.

I would definitely look into having dinner at one of the EP resorts. Swan/Dolphin is the first boat stop from DHS and they have some of the best restaurants on Disney property IMHO. If you are interested in a casual, character buffet, try Garden Grove at the Swan. Good food and much, much less expensive than Chef Mickey's. bluezoo is excellent! Il Mulino is arguably the best Italian restaurant on property. Capt. Grille at YC and Trattoria al Forno are also good. Trattoria is on the Boardwalk and it might be fun to see the magicians and jugglers after dinner. No way would I go all the way to CR from DHS to go to Chef Mickey's, especially since you will have already eaten breakfast there.

We do not plan on going back to our hotel first since my brother is staying on property as well (and of course not near us) we were planning on catching an earlier dinner directly from HS. We were also trying to keep our options open if the bigger kids wanted to head back after dinner. I am thinking we will try some place the boat will bring us. I think proximity is key here. Thanks so much everyone.
