I'm going to Disney World for my honeymoon in April, and I'm trying to figure out where I want to make my dining reservations and I'm stuck with Hollywood Studios! First I was thinking I wanted to do the Fantasmic Package and go to Mama Melrose, but I think 50's Prime Time Cafe and the Sci-Fi Drive in look like very fun places! Do you NEED to do a Fantasmic Package to get a good seat for Fantasmic? If I did one of the other two, would I still be able to make it to Fantasmic after? What are your suggestions?? I've never been to Hollywood Studio, so I appreciate any comments!! Thank you!!

we thoroughly enjoyed Mama Melrose on 9/1/2008. Good food, good service, pleasant atmosphere (classic Italian neighborhood restaurant decor.) Not crazy busy or crazy crowded.

We liked Hollywood & Vine back in 5/2008. Good food, good service...but it is noisy & very, very busy so maybe not such a good place for honeymooners!

Prime Time is good food & good fun and Mamma Melrose has good food.
Ate here and still eat here for many years.

My daughter and I made ressies at 50's Prime Time, Sci FI and Mama Melrose every year. Not so much because the food blows us away, but because they are as much as part of the magical experience as the park. The food is so-so, it certainly isn't the worst meal I've had. Sci Fi is really cool and probably a good choice for Honeymooners. If you don't mind getting harassed during dinner and have a good sense of humor, 50's prime time is the way to go.

We're going to book Mama Melrose's Fantasmic package as well. However, I understand that with the package you get a reserved section not a reserved seat. The bonus of the package is that you don't have to wait in that long line, but the seats aren't necessarily the best you can get... At least that's the way I understood it....

50's Prime Time is probably our family's favorite restaurant in all of WDW. The food is yummy and if you get the right server it can be a lot of fun too! We also enjoy Sci-Fi. I, personally, don't know why the restaurants at DHS get such a bad rap - they are no worse than the other parks. Good luck with your decision!

We enjoyed both 50sPT and Mama Melroses. We liked the fun atmosphere of 50sPT but prefer the food at Mama Melroses.

Another alternative might be the Brown Derby. I know it gets mixed reviews but we enjoyed it.

The Fantasmic Package can increase the likelihood of getting a better seat, but no guarantee. It just depends on when you arrive. We've had the Fantasmic passes and had great seats, but we've also been when we didn't have the passes and still got good seats (we just got there earlier and waited in line).

Good luck and congratz!!!

We always eat at Mama Melrose -- except this upcoming December trip I've not been able to get an ADR :headache:

Have eaten at Brown Derby -- food and atmosphere is good but it's pricey for the portion size, IMO

I would recommend mama melrose. I loved the food there. I wasn't impressed with 50's prime time.

And I've never had a reservation for fantasmic and have always gotten a seat. Just go about 15-30 minutes in advance and you should be fine. The amphitheater is set up so well that you get a good view from almost any seat.

Unfortunately I cant recommend anything good at DHS. There are A LOT of horrible food reviews at pretty much every restaurant there. Id say Prime Time or Mama Melrose has the least amount of negative reviews. Id say jump on the boat to YC or BC and go to the Captains Grille or Yachtsman Steakhouse

IMO people are all too ready to complain and hesitant to compliment. You failed to answer the question.

I agree that the atmosphere, the theatrics if you will, are a great part of the dining experiences offered @ DHS. It depends om the mood you're looking for. Mama's can be more romantic ala Lady and the Tramp. Sci Fi is literally a 50's/60's drive in movie experience which can be romantic/nostalgic, family oriented or just plain fun. Prime time can be nostalgic like a malt @ the soda shop but more so zany/fun. (it's our personal favorite and they have a good bar while waiting for your kitcen table.):cheer2: for DHS dining experiences

I've reconsidered dining @ 50's Prime Time.

I don't know if it's because they were understaffed or if the theme is getting old or whatever but ate there 10/9 and had my worst Disney Dining experience yet.

I tried to get a drink @ the bar while waiting for our table and I felt like the ugly, fat girl at the night club. 2 bartenders, not real busy and couldn't even flag one down for a drink. I was literally waving a 20 at them and I was ignored.

Service @ the table was HORRIBLE. We are not demanding in the least. We even tip for poor service, fools that we are. People seated after us had entree before we even had water. Our drinks came first 2, then one more then cream for the coffee that arrived before the cold, burnt coffee. Tables around us actually came and went before we were served our entree. We gave up on desert.

I think this is no longer our favorite restaurant in DHS. :sad1:

We didn't like Sci-Fi. Food was average to okay. Waitress was awful. I asked her to refill my kids' drinks and she SHOOK their cups and said they had plenty.

We've been to the Brown Derby many times and have always had a great meal. As far as portions go, my wife and I get a Cobb salad for two and split an entrée and are always full. Sometimes no room for dessert. Try it, you'll like it.

We have eaten at several of your possibilities and have enjoyed them all. It depends on what you are looking for as the atmospheres are different.
Sci-Fi - Ate there for lunch and loved it. The atmosphere is fun and the food was good.
50' Primetime - Fun and yummy as well. As others have posted with adult beverages available it can be a good choice if you want that mixed with a casual buffet dinner.

Brown Derby - quiet and upscale feeling and costs a bit more but would be a great choice if you are looking for a little romantic down time in the middle of your honeymoon.

Have fun
