Hiya.

It seems that Hollywood Studios holds a reputation for offering poor Counter Service options.

Looking through the menus the food doesnt seem to vary to much from any other Disney Park, my though therefore leads me to think it down to the quality of the food rather than the offerings:confused3

We skipped a visit last year so can only think back to 2008/2009. I recall we ate at Pizza Planet & ABC. Anything improved since then :confused3

Personally, its the lack of choice at HS that I struggle with...as well as the quality.

For example, there seems to be a lot of sandwich meals available which is great - for those who can eat them. I have IBS so I can't touch them with the grotty end of a bargepole. Same for burgers - unless I have a gluten free bun.

ABC has a bad reputation, probably more than anywhere else, for the quality of the food. The only time I ate there was in 2007 and we didn't have too bad a meal, but I doubt I'd go back there again.

In 2009 we didn't eat at HS, other than at Sci Fi Dine In, as we couldn't find somewhere that we could all agree on

I think Fairfax Fare has an updated menu, which brings it more on par with the other parks offerings. They have ribs/chicken etc.

We eat a TS lunch (either Sci Fi or 50s Prime Time) now and then will either eat at Fairfax Fare or eat when we get back to POFQ...or hop over to Epcot for a CS.

I like Starring Rolls and had Sushi there which was fresh and tasty.
The rest of my family found it ok too, the cakes are sickly sweet but ok if that's your thing!

For the same reasons as Rohais, we have actually left the park to eat. Backlot Express isn't bad and yes, they did revamp the menus there early last year so reviews have improved somewhat and I do think, from viewing the menus online, that the variety has improved.

I agree with both of your statements. The only thing to keep in mind is that when they run out of stock for the day, they close. You really want to be there in the morning, preferable before the lunch rush, to avoid massive queues and ensure that you have a full range to choose from. I felt their quality and value were both very good. I know about the queues and we went about 10.30 am on a weekday with no EMH and no Fantasmic but still queued for about 10-15 minutes. I asked for to go containers and packed it outside and we saved it for later. Incidentally, once we had received our food there was absolutely no seating available so just keep in mind that many regular fans are aware of the foregoing and do go early to get their food.

Backlot Express seemed OK, when we first went it had a toppings bar like Peco Bills but they got rid of it. :confused3

Didn't think much to ABC Commissary especially the fish and chips.

Yes, IMO it is one of the better CS at that park. Also, I forgot to mention but UG has a podcast which I always listen to and a couple of months after the 'CS revamp' at DHS they went to try some of them out and Studio Catering Co did very well in their reviews.

Lol, we didn't even try it. A few times we have stopped to have a look and just left and gone elsewhere.

I don't need great food at the park, but I want to eat something I enjoy and of fair quality without having to exit DHS and get a bus somewhere because I am absolutely ravenous.

We ate ar ABC commisionery in December and thought it was quite nice  I had read all the bad reviews and was pleasently surprised. Have eaten at the market next to Fantasmic and the backlot one as well and all have just been standard counter service you get all over disney - it all tastes the same to me.

We used to eat at the one opposite the Backlot tour however since they 'improved' it during its refurb last year we don't like the menu.

We used to like it as there was a fry in sight and the chicken with rice and black beans was good as was the pulled pork.

Eat now at Backlot express usually or head back to a resort.

Hiya! I agree that DHS CS dining options are limited to say the best! We LOVE the Writer's Stop (despite a disasterous visit last year when they couldn't get the coffee machine working!) but that is only really good for morning pastries / drinks / snacks.

We normally do a lunch at Sci Fi or head back to the resort!
