Is this where the new Star Wars area will be?

No one knows for sure. Nothing has been announced, except the expansion of Toy Story Midway Mania, which is happening right next door, not at backlot area. Rumors are Pixar and/or Star Wars expansions at DHS.

Iger confirmed a Star Wars expansion at D23 last year, but zero details or timeframe. Maybe they'll release some details this year. The new SW movies are going to start coming out before the new Avatar movies, so maybe between that and the market share Universal has been taking we'll get some movement.

I read on the rumor board that Back Lot may become a Toy Story Playland. I was sort of thinking maybe they would then close Honey I Shrunk playground and make new Star Wars attractions over that side of park. The Toy Story theme would fit there at the end of Pixar Place. But who knows. I also read an article that said there may be announcements at D3 in August.

Igor did not confirm a star wars expansion for DHS. What he did say is that there will be a star wars presence in the parks. He did not specify what parks either. He also did not mention anything at D23 last year because there was no D23 last year. In 2013 at D23 there was a little tease with R2D2 with star wars but really told us nothing.

The backlot according to rumors will become a pixar expansion including some attractions from Toy Story Playland but not the entire land. Echo Lake area is where Star wars is supposed to go.
