Just seen this on Doing Florida

An Orlando radio station has posted details for upcoming live events with a very interesting event happening on July 3rd. It announces a broadcast “Live from Universal Studios to celebrate the Grand Opening of their new Rollercoaster “Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit”. From this it appears the ride should be open by that date if not on the day itself, nothing has yet been confirmed by Universal.

Could be worth keeping an eye on Universals site for something more definate.

Thanks Kenny, that's interesting. I hope it is up and running by 20th July.:thumbsup2

Thanks....if it's anything like Manta then it could be running soft openings from mid-June.

Can't wait to ride - the lift hill and the first inversion (in the loop) look incredible.

Wow a new ride at Universal?? Didnt know this!! Tell me more, any links or pics to share??!! xx

The thing I like about it is that it is a non-inversion loop.
I don't mind going upside down but am looking forward to something that is that little bit different.

Is that thing on the left the lift hill?!! :scared1:

So you go up almost vertically? The rest of it I'm sure I'll love, but going up that hill is gonna scare me senseless!!!

Yes that would be it. We saw it being built in Feb and couldnt believe how tall it looks. And the parts where it comes out into the scenery near Twister look amazing.
Me and DD are sooooo looking forward to this:woohoo:

Unfortunately, yes! In my opinion, the actual climb is going to be the worst part of the ride! There are plenty of videos on YouTube that are virtual ride point of views, they are good! And it never goes upside down, which is pretty cool!

The Hollywood Rip Ride and Rockit, is very similar to Saw-The Ride at Thorpe Park, although I think Saw is actually worse! It has the vertical climb, but then has a more than vertical drop - rather than the track going straight down-> | it goes inwards back towards the climb track like this -> /

Yeah I saw that, it looks a bit like Sheikra at BG and Oblivion at Alton Towers, but with the more than vertical bit. Apparently Flamingo Land in North Yorkshire is getting one (I think it's called Mumbo Jumbo or something like that) that is even steeper than Saw (well more back on itself or however you describe it!!)

Urgh I'm gonna hate this hill lift, I just hope it doesn't put me off going on at all, I can be a real wimp about actually going on things, although once I've done it I'm fine!

i would love to see the Saw ride :) ooh i am getting brave !!

Glad to see that the new coaster will be up and running soon - it looks awesome! :cool1:

We're just back from an update tour of Universal and a meeting with the head of Creative for the parks, talking about the ride. And it really does like like an absolute monster. The vertical lift-hill is quite a surprise and the way the ride is cleverly wound around, through and along the whole park length is quite amazing. This should be real big-time hit with coaster fans when it finally opens (still no official confirmation of date yet, but early July seems the best guess; Universal have a press conference next Tuesday to - hopefully - let us know!).
