Hollywood Brown Derby or California Grille?

My mom and I are heading to Disney this August and we're trying to sort out our restaurant situation. We know for sure that we want to eat at either Hollywood Brown Derby or California Grille. It's an either-or situation, so which one? Anyone been to either of them? Which do you prefer and why? Any input is greatly appreciated

I have eaten at both with my mom and we both like the California Grill a lot better.

From the food to the set up. Cali is more open and you can't BEAT the view from there. We had reservations at 5:30 we chose not to have a reservations during the fireworks and the view of MK and the seven seas lagoon was just breathtaking. We have had reservations during the fireworks and that is reallly nice too they pump the music in from wishes. All you see at Brown Derby is tables and people.

Cali Grill - the food is just much better than the Derby and our service was also better at Cali.

Definitely California Grill! The view is amazing and, although they are both considered Signature Restaurants, I feel Cali Grill is superior in service, ambiance, and food quality.

I like Brown Derby, but California Grill can be an excellent dining experience. Brown Derby can't touch it.

Brown Derby was kinda disappointing last time we were there. food was fine, but even taking into consdieration Disneyflation, overpriced for what you got. and crowded as all get out with little room between tables to get around.. Think I ran over a few toes in my chair....

we'd like to try CG next time after hearing all the rave reviews.

Well... after much fiddling with the schedule and a bit of tweaking, it seems that SuperSequin (my DD) and I will be going to Cali Grill instead of Brown Derby We are going for free dining, so it was a challenge! The only ressie available during the 9 nights we will be there is at 9:30pm, so we will get to see Wishes, too!

I love Brown Derby - my favorite restaurant at WDW. But we're trying Cali Grill next month - so I'm excited to see all these great reviews - maybe I'll have a new favorite!

My FAV of last visit was Le Cellier...that being said...

DS and I loved Cali Grill for the Sushi and the view... (May 10th)

We didn't really care for HBD... (May 13th)...

ALTHOUGH I WILL give HBD another try. I have pics of food from both meals if you are interested... We did HBD F! dinner and had appy's, entree's and desserts. It just wasn't great food...

I can't say I've tried all Cali Grill has to offer...as we filled up on Sushi and didn't order entree's or dessert...

however, if you were to bring me meals from either right now... I would ask for Cali Grill "Hands Down".... and again... the view was AWESOME !

Cali Grill is better, but I really liked The Brown Derby too. But if you can only go with one, Cali Grill is my pick.

California Grill is much better but I did like the Brown Derby a lot. We are doing both again in the fall.

Have a great trip and a great meal. Seeing wishes is just awesome from there. I can't wait to eat there next month!
