we have reservations at H.S. for H.&V. we are kind of thinking about coming back to our resort (P.O.R.) early and eating at boatwrights.

does anyone have any comments on what makes more sense.

which restaurant has a better kid-friendly menu? for two adults and a 12 and 9 year old.

i am told that H&V is a buffet, correct?

is boatwrights a better restaurant?

Personally, I would change your ressie for H & V, as it's geared to a preschool age.

For 9 and 12 year olds, I'd say go for sci-fi diner at HS, especially if they've never been before. More for that age bracket, and you can explain to your kids what drive ins are.

I personally wouldn't want to dine at either of those restaurants. I would try for a different HS restaurant, or a restaurant at another resort, or maybe a downtown disney restaurant.

I have to agree with cvjw. Hollywood & Vine has gotten some of the worst reviews on the Boards. We had dinner at Boatwrights and found both the food and service to be less than notable.

I agree, I personally wouldn't do either. H & V is one of only 2 WDW restaurants we will never return to. In our opinion, the food was bad, the servers were rude, the restaurant was dirty and we will not return.
I have not eaten at Boatrights, but the menu does not appeal to me.
What about 50's Prime Time Cafe at DHS. We enjoy this alot.

NOTE: H&V had previously been an eatery-of-choice
for Studio guests. But, *possibly* due to DDP and reduction
in tips, the food selection and quality has suffered significantly.
We found a ill-kept eatery with less than hospitable CM's.

NOTE: Boatwrights used to get good reviews, but
over the past two years has really gone down hill in
the food quality department. In our opinion, it is
below average - convenient for resort guests
but not recommended. If staying at POR, we
recommend walking to POFQ for their food court.

has anyone dined at a different resort than they are staying at? is it hard to travel from one to another by bus? if so, which would be the easiest coming out of Hollywood Studios going for dinner then back to Port Orleans?

and if we did go to downtown disney, how long does it take by boat? i understand we can do that.

I know nothing at all about Boatwrights, but I haven't read just stellar reviews of H&V.

Boatwright's isn't awful if you are staying at POR and looking for a relaxing night in. I don't think it is a restaurant that people should go out of their way for. My girlfriend and I have gone to Boatwright's on nights where we are either going to stay at the resort or plan on just walking around DTD at night. The boat from POR to DTD takes about 20-25 mins plus time to wait for the boat to get there, it is a very nice and relaxing trip. If you are on a DP, take your desert to go, put it in your room, then head to Ghirardelli's for ice cream.

If you are not looking for an early night, I would suggest heading to one of EPCOT/DHS resorts for dinner. Cap May (at BC) has a nice buffet with a lot of seafood if your family likes that. Then after dinner you can walk around the Boardwalk and watch any performers that might be out. There is also a mini-golf course (Fantasia I think) that is a short walk from there if you are looking to do something that is not park related. EPCOT is also a pretty short walk from the BC/YC/Boardwalk area, so if you have hoppers you can head over to EC (enter through the IGW) and catch IllumiNations.

I have eaten at boatright's and have found it to be horrible.. Service was terrrible and the food was not good either.. There are so many restaurants to choose from,why not try something different.. maybe something in the Epcot resort area, like Cape May, or Beaches and Cream.. Downtown Disney? Planet Hollywood? Or if you are leaving one of the parks on the day in question why not try Ohana'S the food is much better than the other's you have chosen and its fun for the kids..

In defense of Boatwright's, We've eaten here a number of times and never had anything but good service and good food. I wouldn't make a special trip to get there, but for TS at POR it's a perfectly good option.

Most table service restaurants have suffered under the DDP with menu changes and Boatwright's is no exception.

H&V is the expected Disney Buffet. Decent enough, but nothing special.

I plan on dining at a different resort when I go. I'm also staying at POR. I plan to dine at WL (Whispering Canyon) and taking the bus to MK and then possibly the boat to WL. Since you'll be at HS, you could take the boat to Swan & Dolphin, Yacht & Beach Club, and Boardwalk. It took me about 20-30 mins to get there (I had just missed a boat), and it was a relaxing ride. If you have park hoppers, you could even go to Epcot which is close by - TONS of restaurants to choose from!

To take the boat from POR to DTD, it's only about 20 mins and the boats run fairly frequently. Lots of good options there, and some nice shopping too!
