Was down at the World for the past two weeks and had a great vacation. Only down side was Hollywood and Vine dinner (fantasmic priority seating tickets). Supposedly it was a character dinner although no characters were present. Even came across on my debit card as "Character Dinner" description. Waiter was terrible, had to wait on drinks, plate clearing... and he still got 80 bucks worth of tip (we had party of 9). 400 bucks later, we left pretty dissatisfied.

Wouldn't do it again if it was last place to eat down there.

My vent is over, thanks for listening, be aware. :)

H&V is only characters for lunch and breakfast, sucks that they led you to believe it was for dinner too :(.

As for the waiter, if I were required to pay that, I'd make him work for it. Take plates from the buffet and put them on your table (note: once they leave the buffet they have to be washed, used or not), spill your drink once or twice (conveniently away from anything valuable!) and have him clean it up. Make it fun for you :). Of course, right now, none of that helps, but it's something to think about for next time! (Or make you chuckle as you keep thinking about other annoying but not outright mean ways to make him earn his keep!)

(Also, if you feel the service was very bad, you can speak with a manager about the auto-gratuity and they may be able to work something out. Again, too late now, but good to know for the future).

a few times and never had bad food or service. It may have been an off night :(

Really? It is considered one of the worst (if not the worst) restaurant in WDW by the majority of posters on this board. Anyone who has checked the reviews knows that they are throwing caution to the wind when making an ADR at H&V.

Have been to H&V for character breakfast and is a bufett and has always been great service and food. so am assuming dinner must be order from the menu now? would write guest services on this if was me:confused3

We went once and thought it was awful; decided to give it a second try in case it was an "off night." It was WORSE the second time -- bad food (lukewarm, bland, etc.), filthy restaurant, rude hostess, terrible service. It, along with WCC, are two Disney restaurants you could not pay us to eat at again.

I have to say I don't consider WDW a gourmet hot spot but the food at Hollywood and Vine was horrible. I honestly didn't eat a thing when we went. Luckily the characters where great (we went for lunch) and really interacted with DD.

We have had the same experience. I always thought it was well publicized there were no characters for dinner.

If service was that bad (which I have experienced at other restaurants), I have gone to the manager and had the tip removed and left what I thought to be appropriate.

Sorry you had such a bad experience.

Sorry about your bad experience, OP. Don't you hate it when you're the one who recommends a restaurant to a group and then the experience is less than favorable????

I'm glad it was your one and only bad experience!

We've never used the F! package because none of the restaurants really strike my fancy. I hope you really enjoyed the show!

Wow...nice tip! Maybe I can retire and work at WDW!!! I really dislike that the tip is included when dining with a group. There is no incentive for the server to provide wonderful service!!!!

I agree that H and W has very poor food. The characters issue is pretty much your fault though, a simple look at the disney website or a google search would have told you there are not characters at dinner.

We ate there in 2009 as part of the Fantasmic package. Normally we eat at Mama Melrose's for F!, but it wasn't available.

Our take was that the food was not terrible (for a buffet), but the place was DIRTY. We were seated at a window table. The mini blinds had what appeared to be years of caked food on them.

We also had poor service, getting few drink refills as the plates stacked up. They squeezed five of us at a four person table, which didn't give us much room to begin with.

We won't return.

I totally agree!!

Ugh, we had the same experience there and I vowed never to return. Sad because years ago it had really good food (talking like 15-20 years ago). Thanks for taking the time to let us know about your experience.

Why can't disney do something with this place? Seriously everyone complains. Characters are only know to the under 3 set and even then do not seem that popular- my two year old is bored with both their shows. :confused3

How hard would a Toy Story meal be? Retheme the restaurant, hire a new chef, change the format maybe plated like O'hana or Garden Grill. If they did this TSM may not be the only thing families are lining up for at DHS and that should help the almighty dollar.:thumbsup2

Ugh! I'm totally depressed reading this review of H&V :sad1:

I booked there a couple of months ago thinking it was going to be fun because of the characters (we're going for lunch). One of my children happens to LOVE the Little Einsteins, but now I'm thinking it just isn't worth it to go..

So, it's that bad, huh?

How about using Phineas and Ferb characters there? I could see P & F, Perry / Agent P, Candace, even Doofenshmirtz.

Honestly, I didn't think the food at dinner was terrible, but the service was lacking (how hard is it to clear plates and get refills?) and, as I said before, it was D-I-R-T-Y dirty!

We've eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner multiple times at H&V and the only one that has been bad (thrice) was dinner and we have officially deemed it a "never return". Lunch is fine, but breakfast was slightly better. We like to get one of the last breakfast seatings because they overlap service so you can have a little of both breakfast and lunch items. Have a great time. My youngest was so excited to see Special Agent Oso last December - his enthusiasm made it worthwhile!
