Hollywood actress and dancer Ann Miller has passed away

Ann Miller, the raven-haired, long-legged actress and dancer whose machine-gun taps won her stardom during the golden age of movie musicals, died Thursday of lung cancer. She was 81.

Such a talented, amazing dancer! She seemed like quite a gal. I can think of so many of her numbers where she nearly stole the show. I think my favorite number of hers was "Too Darn Hot" from "Kiss Me Kate". She truly was a legend. You'll be missed, Annie!

I had the oppourtunity of meeting Ann Miller when I was 13. She used to come to the restaurant that me and my mother worked at to visit the owner. He used to be her traveling hairdresser when she was on Broadway. What a lovely woman!! I still have the $1 that she signed for me.

I remember Ann Miller not only for her great movie and Broadway performances, but also for a memorable TV commercial. In the late 1960s, Ann starred in a commercial for Heinz "Great American" soups, created by the great satirist Stan Freberg. The spot opens with the husband saying 'what's for dinner tonight?' to 'wife' Ann in the kitchen and then the kitchen opens up to reveal an old time movie set where Ann and a chorus line dance atop big soup cans. When whe number ends, the husband asks her, "Do you have to make a big production of everything?"

Great dancer, great actress.

I believe her last film was Mullholland Drive. A very bizarre David Lynch film (are there any other kind?). She was excellent in it (even though it was a small role)
