OK! My DD is freaking out because it is all over the school that Hollister clothing stores are closing. Does anyone know if there is any validity to this rumor? I sure hope not as this is her favorite store and you know how 16 year olds are.

I haven't heard that rumor yet but did hear that Aeropostale was closing.:confused3

I have a feeling that many stores will be closing or at least downsizing. I wish that there was a way to check these rumors.

I'm being very careful about the gift cards I buy because of this issue.

If other stores are like the ones near me, people probably can't stand to go into the stores to shop. The ones here smell so strong of there perfume, it just gags me. It's like the spray the stuff everywhere. You can smell in in the mall as you pass by the store. Gag!

I thought Hollister was a subsidiary of Abercrombie & Fitch.

It is.

OP - according to the 3rd quarter report for A&F, they are actually planning on opening more stores. However, there was an 18% decline in same store sales.

There is no mention of stores closing, although in this market, individual stores may go as the company tries to cut expenses (rent being a major one, per the report).

I was just in one and the music was SO LOUD and it was DARK.
Really dark.

Aeropostale is one of the few teen chains the analysts expect to pull through with relatively little scars.

Their financials are due out today, but they are actually expected to do OK.

Again - individual stores may close, but as of this minute they seem like one of the safer bets to stay.

I can't find anything about either Aeropostale or Hollister closing, but Tweeter just closed 70 of it's stores today, without any warning to customers OR employees!!:scared1:

Hmmm... We've known about Tweeter closing for about a month here. It was announced about the same time as the Circuit City closing in town.

:rotfl2: I know how you feel!!!! A&F is worse though! I can hardly stand to walk by those stores, they spray so much perfume and are so loud! How can those kids who work there not go deaf?

It's crazy isn't it? I went in for the first time last weekend for gift cards for my nephews. How can you see what you are buying?

On another note, everyone is saying that if you get gift cards this year to spend them before New Year if possible. When the 4th quarter earnings come out their may be more stores going under.

The loud music doesn't bother me, but I hate that I can't see in Hollister. I feel like an old woman having to bring the clothes up to my face in order to see what color they are!

Our A & F is much lighter, but also more expensive. We can only afford clearance items in there.

My DH took my DD to the mall last weekend. He said "I'll take you on one condition. I am NOT going into the loud, dark, smelly store!" :lmao:

This cracks me up. I am 46 and love to go in Hollister, because of the smell and the music! Believe me the clothes would not fit!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: WHen my DDs and I go to the mall we use the entrance closest to Hollister and sigh "ooo I can smell Hollister" My DD even got me some So. Cal perfume last year for my Mother's Day!

My sisters, who are both younger than me, hate going into Hollister!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

In every other way, I am pretty much an old lady!

I don't mind the songs themselves -but I don't see how having the music up so loud that you can't hear the salesperson is good business.;)
Also the sales associate asked me for the last 4 numbers of my CC and I couldn't see them!
American Eagle had their music up loud too -but there was light:)
