In an effort to take an inexpensive family vacation, so as to save for the next trip to WDW, we are thinking of taking a trip to Holliday world. I know it doesn't compare to WDW, but it is closer by 16 hours!!!! and much less $$$. Has anyone camped at Lake Rudolf? Tell me all you know!!!!!

I've never heard of it? Where is it...I'd vote for WDW if you can afford it! :thumbsup2

What ages are the children with you? Holiday world is good for small children. If you have some teens, you should consider driving an hour to Louisville for a day at Kentucky Kingdom (or six flags kentucky or whatever it is called now a days)

Another option for you would be the Cincinnati area and going to Kings island. It is a lot better for the older kids.

Or St. Louis for the Six flags and zoo.

So when is this, in what state, and what is it ? I'm always looking for something else to do and go ,instead of the same ole same ole.

We stayed at Lake Rudolf last year. Nice campground lots of hills. They have two swimming pools and transportation to Holiday World. Holiday World is a good place to save money. Food is very reasonable and all drinks are free in the park. Holiday world has a water park and several roller coasters for older kids, many things for younger kids also. The price of admission is about $30 with a second day for $20.

You can get on-line and see all campsites on the map. Deluxe sites have a concrete patio.

We also did Kings Island last year. It is not a place to save money on food or drinks. Nothing can be carried in. They check bags and will take away water bottles. Admission was about $60 for a two day ticket. We camped at Ceadarbook Campground it is about 8 miles from Kings Island. Kings Island did away with campground and buildt Wolf lodge that opened last Fall.

Holiday World is in southern Indiana. My kids are 6 and 3. I would absolutely go to WDW.....if I could afford it. Not this year though. I was concerned about the noise of the coasters too. I'm not sure my kids could get an afternoon nap in at this campground. I will check out the other suggestions of Louisville, Cincinnati, and St. Louis. Anyone have suggestions for campgrounds near the amusement parks of these cities? by the way, we live in Indianapolis, and will be driving. We can arrange only about 4-5 days in a row off work sometime this summer, and camp in a tent.

WE LOVE HOLIDAY WORLD!!!

FREE parking.

FREE softdrinks

FREE sunscreen

Holiday World is a very very nice, family owned traditional amusement/water park. They have a good assortment of rides....with very nice "kiddy" areas in both parts of the park.

Incredible coasters, very friendly, attentive staff...wonderful family atmosphere...incredible waterpark....can not comment on the campground though, as we stayed in a hotel in Tell City.

Holiday world is great and lake Rudolph is very nice.

I Grew up in Evasville and live in Louisville.

A few suggestions - Six Flags in Lousiville is HORRIBLE. It is Crowded and basically dirty. The food is bad and it is filled with rude unattended kids. I refuse to go there but get dragged there every other year or so and hate it.

Holiday world is clean, staffed with nice, clean cut, friendly locals, inexpensive and has a very nice water park. It has very good roller coasters and some other nice rides. It is not disney world but what is. It does as someone said offer free sunscreen and sodas. This is a big plus for me.

If you are worried about noise from Holiday World (not a problem when I stay) you can skip camp rudolph and stay at Lincoln state park which has a very nice campground and a lake with swimming area. Compared to you average KOA Lake Rudolph is a cut above and compared to your average state park, Lincoln is a cut above. Again neither is the Fort but what is?

Cincinnati has Kings Island which is fun but I have never camped there so can't suggest. There is a nice campground in Cinci (Winton Woods) but I think it is 30 minutes or so from Kings Island.
