I've been trying to do my homework to plan for DH's 40 b-day. He wants to take an Alaskan cruise ( August 2009). Looking at the point charts it appears that 2008 points are not yet out. 2007 pts indicate it can be up to 600 points depending on where it falls rate (peak) wise. We will need to bank 08, use 09, borrow 10 points (200 at SSR) (totaling appx 6oo for four of us). So here's my question- Should I just go ahead and book the cruise through HAL directly to ensure I get the room I want, then when the rates come out at the end of next year, try to switch my ressie to the room that I booked directly through HAL. The reason why I ask is that I went on the HAL site yeaterday and rooms are very limited for the 2008 cruising season already and the 2008 points haven't even been announced yet. (I'm pretending as though I would be going in 2008, and the only rooms available on the cruise I wanted was literally forward or aft as far as you can get in either direction.) I figured it out price wise, and it appears that it is a better deal than doing the Disney cruise on points, so please don't suggest I rent my points.....Any suggestions!?

My suggestion is to call DVC and ask the best way to go about this. I wanted to book a Disney cruise in 2009 but the points aren't out yet. I called and made a reservation, they're holding my requested cabin for me until the points chart gets released. Not sure if they can do the same with HAL but they must have some sort of system in place.
