So yes it is a *%@??#^%$ snow day.

DS12 is awake before I even usually wake him up (with difficulty) and will be home all day harassing me about when he can play and how can he play and who and why and why not (he has some issues). He HATES getting up in the morning, but THIS morning, he was up like a cartoon character by 6:20.

And DD9, she came home early from school yesterday with a headache and fever. Last night before bed I tried to give her Motrin Jr. Chewables and she hated the flavor so much she dramatically gagged and then threw up her tomato soup dinner, right in the very middle of the family room carpet. I worked on it until 11:30 last night, and it is now an orangey splotch. It is in the most visible area of the entire house.

I went to bed at 12:20 and DD came in at 3:15 becasue she couldn't sleep, She stayed in there and very loudly tossed and turned so I could be empathetic, until I gave up at 5:30 and got up. Three hours of sleep with no chance for a nap today, okay.

But tomorrow all the inlaws are coming (including a crawling baby who will attract floor sitting right on the orangey splotch) for a combined B-Day celebration so I have to make lasagna and cake for 18 people and clean the house. DStepdaughter and her DH are coming from Arizona so I have to prepare the guest room and do all that extra cleaning you do when guests stay. And also the kid's presents need to be wrapped because I had to get them out of my hidey place in the guest bedroom and the kids are here all day folks!

And there's more, like DH being home in my face all day yesterday, and scrambling to finish the teacher gifts and take them early, and DS12 psychiatrist appointment, and the kids' overnight with their cousin cancelled tonight because DD is sick remember? And the mouse.

But I'm sure if you're still reading you've had enough. I just needed to vent so that I don't take it all out on the kids today or make this my Christmas Card newsletter.

Thank you, and feel free to join in with your own holiday happenings!

:goodvibes

You're not having a good day at all.

I've had 2 kids home sick all week and I'm not done shopping or wrapping. I may try to sneak some wrapping today.

We're expecting snow today/tomorrow/Sunday as well. I'm hoping to get my cookies all baked this weekend.

I hope you're able to enjoy your holiday festivities.

I can totally sympathize with you. My DS5 got up at 5:30 and although I tried to get him to go back to bed, he would not sleep. I kept hearing "Mommy, where are you? Mommy, I can't sleep", etc. This is going to be a long long day and a long vacation, if he doesn't start to sleep in.

We now have a "snow day." There is not one flake in the air! They anticipate snow for later today. You know what that means - not a single flake will fall today.

They NEVER cancel school, why today! I have nothing done for Christmas and had a full day planned. DD and DS were up at 7:00 am. I can't drag them out of bed at 7:30 on a school day. Well, guess I am putting them to work today. :)

I am enhausted just reading your list of things that you need to get done before tomorrow. More power to you and I hope things turn out better than expected.:thumbsup2

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I guess mine isn't quite as bad as yours, but here, I'll commiserate with you...

we leave for our parents home for 16 days tomorrow morning at 6 AM (takes two days to drive it) and I have yet to pull the suitcases out.
I have to pack up for three kids, and a dog, who just loves to pee in our closet, but I'll save that for another day....- thank goodness DH helps by packing for himself- what a guy- :lovestruc :rolleyes1

The fridge needs to be cleaned out- there is laundry everywhere- I need to go to the bank, the store, the gas station, the post office and do laundry all in the course of 6 hours....
the Christmas presents need to be hauled out of their hiding places and packed up but I can't do that
because....

I believe I failed to mention,
I'm also having to clean puke off of everything- thanks to my DS9 who woke us all to the musical delight of puke flying at 3 AM.

And why am I sitting here you ask?

Sanity, m'dear, sanity.

Oh boy- sing it with me now....
"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....."

hahahaha

Hope everyone gets really jolly.:santa:
FAST.

Lots of hugs to you.

My kids have a snow day today, and they were both up before their normal wake-up time. DH decided since the kids were out of school, that he may as well stay home, too. I have been up since 5:15, watching the news to see if the kids had school and was HOPING for a calm day. Both kids woke up coughing and sniffling, DH is in a foul mood, and the puppy hates peeing in the ice. It's gonna be a long day...

Can I join you in the venting? It's not nearly as bad as yours, but I'll share. I'd planned on decorating my house and getting all my shopping done this weekend, but instead I'll be cleaning my dad's messy house and decorating it. Why? Because my dBIL (not dear at this moment) decided that instead of having a light dinner of lunch meat & finger foods at my house on Christmas Eve, we have to have a big hot meal at my dad's. Um, why is my BIL deciding this? I don't know, but my sister goes along with whatever he says is a good idea, and now my dad is all on board so I've been outvoted.

My dad's house is a pigsty since my mother died and it's impossible to clean. As soon as we go over there and get it all cleared out, he's going around right in our footsteps to mess it back up. He's like a freaking big toddler, and always has been. My husband took over a week off starting Christmas Eve, and we'd planned on going over during that time to deal with a big portion of the mess, but now we'll have to do it earlier. I bet any amount of money that if BIL had to come over and help with the mess or cook any of the meal, he'd be changing his tune and deciding that the lunch meat at my house is a spectacular plan.

You ARE me! You haven't pulled suitcases out yet??? That is SO me. It's always a big part of my stress, my own making for procrastinating. And even the puke in common. But see, you've made me feel better, because at least we're not traveling in addition to it all like some years.

And sanity, yep, that's why I'll pop in here periodically today. There is nothing women do better than commiserate and support!!! You are all so great. :)

Can I join you in the venting?.

:headache:

Vent away sista!!

I hate it when other people decide something is a good idea with no consideration for the work it'll cause other people.

I sometimes wish Christmas were in summer so there wouldn't always be a sick kid. They're not even really sure of His birthday anyway. Good luck with your duties!

Lack of sleep makes everything so much harder!

So Irritating! What a waste!

They always turn out okay. I should just skip being b----y about it. Thanks for the boost.

Lots of hugs to you.

Dang the snow!!

Take a deep breath! You can do it!

Puke on the carpet: Try Oxiclean. It works well. If that doesn't work, get an area rug!

Presents aren't wrapped: Park the kids (with puke buckets) in the living room with a movie. Tell them if they disturb you all their Christmas presents will be returned. All else fails, toss each present in a pillow case and tie with ribbon!

Cleaning the house: Do what I do when I have to declutter! Grab a box or laundry basket and toss everything that is out of place into it. :) Not a good long term solution, but it works in a pinch.

Finally, it doesn't matter if things are perfect for your company coming. Explain that your DD was sick and everyone will forgive whatever isn't perfect.

Have a cup of cocoa or tea and enjoy the snow!

That's an awesome idea! I agree, not so good as a long term solution. But I think I might try this one.

Look! We're twinsies!!!!!!!!!!!!!:goodvibes

oh lordy- I have been procrastinating all week. I have a rotten attitude because i don't feel like packing. I hate it. I LOATHE doing laundry. And as for all the presents we get to schlepp down and then back... don't even get me started.
And then the whole stinky dog that needs a bath.... 80 pounds of slobbering fatness all masquarading as the "Isn't your dog adorable" cuteness that is an English Bulldog. :sad2:
good grief Charlie Brown- so much for being supportive.... I'm on a roll, sistah!:rotfl:

Well, the upside of this is that DS is now saying he's hungry... so I think we'll live.

Now if I could just get off of this dang computer... I'd get soooooooooo much accomplished.

haahahaha- Be back later to see what else has occurred during my packing absence...

Jo

You know what else works really well? It's a canned spray cleaner called Power Shot or something like that. It's extremely powerful -- even got out dried in blood stains on a light-colored carpet after one of my dogs got hurt and bled everywhere.

I would give that BIL a phone call today, and ask him to do his share and go over this evening, and tell him he is the cleaner. I bet you will get a phone call within the first 10 minutes he is there.

My vent-my dh brought our Christmas Tree in last night. He did his share. I wanted to see how long he would sit there without decorating it. Well, he sat all night. About 10:00 p.m. he asked me, "what did you buy for anyone".
He was probably stunned that the tree wasn't decorated and presents under the tree.

I think those 2 are my biggest vents. Just once, I wish he would haul up the decorations, decorate the tree, and do all the shopping and gift wrapping.

Luckily my boss told me to go home an hour ago. Snow day today. He couldn't get in the office, so he told me to go home too.
I still don't want to do anything.

You're the kind who just bustles in and takes care of things! I love that!
I do the basket thing too. I have had a basket on the floor in the guest room from such a "cleaning" a month ago. There's a pillow on top so I'm not even sure what's in it. I'll just find someplace to stash it, along with the new one I'll make.

The gifts are now wrapped, yay! Poor DD has been watching TV most of the day, poor thing.

And the lasagna is ready to put together. So I'm gettin' there and I am taking your advice now with some coffee in place of the cocoa. :)

I'm pullin' for ya!

Try some Resolve on the carpet - it always works for me! Good luck!

It's on the list of attempts so far. I've had towels and heavy books on top all day too.

You know what else works really well? It's a canned spray cleaner called Power Shot or something like that. It's extremely powerful -- even got out dried in blood stains on a light-colored carpet after one of my dogs got hurt and bled everywhere.

DH will pick some up on the way home. I used to have some...

Dh's sure can be oblivious can't they? Mine usually finds something unnecessary to do before company comes, like rewire an outlet or, like yesterday, work on finding pictures for his new idea of a picture mug for his folks. I'm the picture/computer person in the house so he's constantly asking me for help every step of the way. "How do I find the pictures? How do I download them? How do I upload them? How do I find the pictures? Why is this website so slow?"

Sorry, you got me off on another rant. I hope your DH gets the idea that alittle help would make the holidays much merrier for you and therefore for him!

It's really hard to have a snow day this time of year when you're "down to the wire" and still have so much to do.. I don't think you are alone in your frustrations..:goodvibes

I don't really have anything to complain about - even though I still have a lot of things to do.. But if the power goes out again like it did last week and I can't do my Christmas cookie baking with my DGD tomorrow, I'll be complaining BIG time!!!! LOL..

 I hear ya. At least my kids are healthy thank goodness. But this is the third snow day, and now they aren't going back to school until Jan 5th. We have too much compacted snow and ice on the roads here (they don't plow or sand where I live) to get out of the house, I have Christmas presents sitting at the post office five miles away, and they will only hold them three days before they return them. Snow is supposed to stick around longer than that. The presents I do have I can't get wrapped because my kids are here. I planned to do that on Wednesday. Sigh...
