I'm wanting to plan a trip for January 2011. When do they usually start taking down the Christmas decorations? When do HM and IASW close to remove their overlays? Basically, when is Holiday Season over?? I don't want to miss it, but some people I am going with want to avoid the craziness that comes with going right before or after the actual Christmas holiday.

I think that this holiday season, the decorations will be down and the season will be over (or starting to come down) on Monday, January 3rd, 2011. I can't see them leaving them up any longer than that, but you never know with that sneaky Disney!:rotfl2: Leaving everything up for another week (until 1/10/11) seems too long.

In January of this year, IASW Holiday stayed open after the season ended - until right around MLK Day (mid-January) - because they didn't want to have that ride down along with Haunted Mansion being down to remove the overlays. In 2011, I don't know if they will keep IASW Holiday open longer again, or if they will just go ahead and have two major rides down at the same time.

Santa and the roaming carolers pretty much leave DLR right after Christmas is over, so they don't stick around until the New Year.

ETA - I actually think it will be less crowded before Christmas. In that week between Christmas and New Year's, it will be a madhouse - probably all the way up until the 3rd, when many folks return to work and school.

my family and i went this past new years. we arrived in disney on december 28th and stayed until mid january. the tree in our hotel came down in one night...we had a late night and then in the morning...poof...gone. as far as the parks, many decorations were still up mid january. with it being so cold this year, i think thats why they waited. i read that they start taking them down normally around the 3rd...the lights were no longer lite on the castle, but you could see them when you walked past. it was so pretty...i was glad that they were up a little longer...then when we were there on the 16th...i didn't even notice that they had come down. put i got the pictures i wanted and can not wait to go again...such a pretty time.

FWIW, this year HM was closed Jan. 4 – 14, 2010, to remove the HMH overlay.

And IASW was closed Jan. 19 – 28, 2010, to remove the IASWH overlay.

Thanks you guys. We actually went the week before Christmas last year, knowing that the week after would be a circus, and it was still crazy!

So I'm trying to get the Christmas Disney Magic without the craziness, but I dunno... I guess just plan, hope for the best, and have fun. Any way it goes, it is DISNEYLAND, eh?
