Holiday season lights & decorations question

When does Disney put up their holiday decorations and how long do they keep them up? We are thinking of going Dec. 31 - Jan. 5th and would love to experience the season.

Most decorations will still be up during that time, but the holiday shows will be done with by then.

The decorations were left up quite late this year. I remember when we went to WDW Dec 04 - Jan 05, the decorations in MK were gone by 3rd, but this year, all parks had theirs up until around 10th Jan.

Yes, we were there through the 10th this year, and only the trees were down by then, but things like the lights of winter at Epcot were still there, as were a lot of the holiday decor on light poles etc.

Does anyone know how early they are put up? Do they wait until after Thanksgiving or are they like all the stores now and the minute Halloween is over it is the Christmas season? I would love to go in November sometime and see all the hoopla. I wonder if VWL is hard to get in November at the 7 month window?

I think they are usually up after THanksgiving, but the first two weeks of December are VERY popular with DVC members, and VWL is generally considered to have the best resort decor, and thus is especially popular. Most VWL ressies will be difficult at 7 months, and some size units might be impossible.

I joked with a CM saying "how early the lights were up and they told me they start putting them up in November.

I believe I read a post last November that said that they watched folks putting up the Christmas tree in the Lobby of the WL around midnight sometime in mid-November. I think it was around the 15th of November. They ARE up BEFORE Thanksgiving, however.
