Holiday Movies

Glad to see I'm not the only one that includes Love Actually in their list. One of my favorite movies. Others we watch include:

White Christmas
Miracle on 34th St (original, black/white)
Scrooge (Alistair Sim, 1951)
Christmas Vacation
It's a Wonderful Life

My DW starts her gift-wrapping when Rudolph is shown for the first time. As for Christmas Story, we watched that for the first time last year and it was just okay. Would I watch it again? Maybe, but it's not high on our list. Last year, the local paper did an article on a resident that actually is one of the boys from the story (not sure which one).

I'm partial to the 1940 and 1950 movies: Holiday Inn, White Christmas, Barbara Standwyck's Remember the Night and Christmas in Connecticut, Miracle on 34th Street (Maureen O'Hara), Bishop's Wife (Loretta Young), Bells of St. Marys and It Happened on 5th Ave. Then there is the animation side with all the Rankin/Bass and the Disney Christmas shorts.

I'll watch pretty much any Christmas show. I was searching Netflix last night because it felt like Christmas and I wanted to watch one but they don't have any of the good ones for instant streaming. I am hoping that will change in the next few weeks.

Great, great thread! Actually, any thread pertaining to movies is fine with me!

As others have posted, I don't start the Christmas movies until after Thanksgiving. Right now, I'm working my way through Thanksgiving movies (Yes, there aren't many, but there are a few Thanksgiving-themed movies).

Here's my Holiday Movie list. It's in no particular order and I have included holiday TV specials, too (Some of which I own on DVD):

The House Without a Christmas Tree

Holiday Inn
The Bells of St. Mary's
The Ref

Some great movies mentioned.

I have to say I love Holiday Inn it has always been a favorite.

I adore Meet me in St. Louis! When Judy sings Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Tears. So beautiful.

Oh, come on! Christmas story? What is there to get?~ It is a childs memory of Christmas. I find it is funnier talking about all the silly things than actually watching it though.

I love all of the sappy shows on Lifetime Channel. They are always cute.

I have to say I HATE LOVE ACTUALLY. It is the SADDEST movie EVER!!!!
When they show Emma Thompson in the bedroom Crying her EYES OUT.
UGH have to cry to her stupid dope of a husband.

wow, I feel better thanks! LOL

So this may not be a traditional Christmas movie but I love to watch Gremlins around the holidays. My fav scene is where the gremlins are sitting in the movie theater watching Snow White and singing Hi Ho Hi Ho......

I could watch the Christmas story 10 times a day everyday! My dad would watch with me and now I'm a new parent I can watch it with my son this year! :)

My DH and I start watching them on dvd thanksgiving day, right after meal time! This year has been so odd and difficult for us though that he mentioned today starting earlier. I said that was fine for once. :)
Our absolute favorites are almost the same:

I always put on Christmas Vacation while we're putting up the main tree! Even when it takes two or three rotations to get the tree ready. lol
We both love White Christmas and almost watch it daily.
One of our favorite movies together by far is the Bishop's Wife-- the original one. Cary Grant is just amazing in that. Our friends think we're old. oh well!
We also watch:
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Rudolph
Mickey's christmas carol
Scrooged
Christmas Carol with George C. Scott
Love Actually
the mickey and friends holiday classics
Jingle all the Way
Santa Clause 1,2,&3
I'm sure I'm leaving one out but that's it for the most part.
We also watch a christmas story but it's not our favourite compared to the Bishop's Wife. That's just one of my favourite movies in the world. I'm excited to break them out again soon!

So this may not be a traditional Christmas movie but I love to watch Gremlins around the holidays. My fav scene is where the gremlins are sitting in the movie theater watching Snow White and singing Hi Ho Hi Ho......

:thumbsup2 I forgot all about "Gremlins"!! The kids and I watched it last week.

I can't wait for "A Muppet Christmas Carol" and "Elf" to appear on TV! Love them both!

We just watched "The Ref" on DVD-- one of my favorites!
